Remote problem on onkyo TX-DS777

Unfortunately, the RC-771M remote doesn't control the TX-SR502. It will only work with these Onkyo models: TX-NR1008 and TX-NR808. The RC-567M is the one for the TX-SR502; replacement remotes that are exact replacements are still available from various places including Amazon.com .

Since the TX-SR502 was released in ~2004, that replacement remote probably won't control other devices that were released in 2004 or later. Onkyo changed its IR code programming before the TX-NR1008 was released in ~2010 and the RC-771M can't communicate with the older receiver. The manuals for the receivers listed above are still available from Onkyo on the product page under the Downloads tab.

Your Onkyo TX-SR304 receivers remote (RC-645S) is not capable of controlling devices by other manufacturers. It controls only Onkyo devices.
Other Onkyo remotes do have universal remote functionality and you can download Onkyo remote codes here.

Not sure what your question is exactly. If you're wondering whether a different remote will work with your receiver, try going to a site that sells replacement remotes (www.replacementremotes.com) and see if the same replacement covers both models.

If you can't program a programmable remote because you lost the original, you may need to buy a replacement for the original. The same site has cheesy but cheap replacement remotes.

Or, you can buy a universal programmable remote that gets its codes from a website. You plug the remote into your PC, go to the website and enter the model numbers of the equipment that you have. A friend has one of these; I think LogicTech makes it. Of course, the programmable remote that you have now will have no purpose.

Low batteries can cause a symptom like this. Have you tried to replace them yet?...accordianman

They usually just snap together, but whatever's been spilled in it may be binding it like glue. Try flexing it by twisting and bending to break the "beverage goo glue"
