The canister lid is stuck on to the canister and so I can't empty it out. Since it's pretty full, I can't keep vacuuming with it. Any ideas on how to open it?

Hi there! To clean the canister or dirt cup, first remove the dirt cup from the vacuum. Twist off the dirt cup lid. Remove the pleated filter and empty the dirt cup. Tap the filter against the trash can until the dirt stops falling. If the filter is really dirty it may need to be replaced. The filter should be replaced every 6 months. I have included a link where you may go to purchase a replacement filter if needed.
I bet I have the same problem as you. My vacuums canister was put back together backwards and now will not move far enough to click unlocked. I am not sure how to fix this and I cant find anyone on any forums who do :( If you figure it out post it! So far ime just trying to muscle it open.
sounds like a possible plug ,then when you first start it up the plug gets stuck a gain.
try taking hose off the unit and running water through hose .if water flows good ,check and see if lid is secure when closed.
open the canister like you are going to empty out the dirt canister. there will be a tab to push in near the back side of the machine on the lid of the dirt canister. It has a push tab at the back and a stationary tab that locks in at the front.
If you do not have a new filter handy, you can brush out as much dirt as you can with say an old tooth brush or paint brush. you will want to replace the filter on this unit at least once a year.
ok . i may have read you post wrong but i think you want the vacuum to empty itself ? i never heard of any vacuum emptying itself ......... the water or dirt goes into the canaster . when full remove the top and dump the bin . some than a drain plug you take out when your over a floor drain or outside ........ if this answer helped please rate 3 or 4 this high rateing will keep me in the paid answer department thanks you ..........if i misunderstood your post i am sorry , just leave a comment i will get it and try to help
From the bottom of your machine going upwards past the handle that is on the canister portion of this vacuum, you will see that the top of that canister had a depression where you should be able to put your fingers in, and gently pull that lid back, opening the vacuum bag compartment. According to the manual, simply pull that back, exposing the bag. To remove the bag, pull the cardboard plate on the top of the bag, out towards the no open face. Throw away your old bag, and take your new bag, fold down the paper sides of the bag, then slide the new bag into the track completely. Close your lid, and you are done.
While you have this compartment open, it's a good idea to check your filter that sits below the paper bag.
