I purchased the Pro Tools + Mbox Pro kit. I was able to successfully install the system with my Apple IMac. However, I have not had the same success installing the drivers for my Mbox Pro on my Dell Precision M90 laptop. Every time I try to install the fire wire driver (Avid Mbox Pro ), the windows installer stops the installation with the message “The Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation.” I am the administrator. I have tried downloading the file for PCs from the Avid website and still get the same results. If I attempt to load the other drivers on the disc (Mbox 2 Pro Driver Setup.exe), there is no problem. I suspect the driver provided is designed for Apple only. Please investigate. Any help would be appreciated.

SOURCE: Can Avid Xpress Pro be installed on windows vista?
According to the manufacturer's spec, version 5.8 is not supported for Vista. It also requires a FireWire port ( 1394). The application key (dongle) is shipped in the box for legally obtained (first-buyer) software. If you didn't get the dongle, you will need to contact the manufacturer.

The software will not work without the key. (Personally, I avoid such software since dongles get lost or damaged.)
I wish that I could be of more help.

OK; after giving up on lousy tech support I got it working after doing the following (not sure if all required, but this is what I did)
1. Gave admin rights to C:\Program Files (x86)\PFU
2. Updated to latest ScanSnap Manager V5.0 L21
3, Copied C:\Users\<admin acct>\AppData\Roaming\PFU directory to C:\Users\All Users
Good luck...

Perhaps check your settings. I had to change the number of porocessors to four (from single or one) and select minimize I/O latency to get the problem solved.
