Dehumidifier Compressor is not working

When I turn on my unit, the fan runs but not the compressor. I checked the humidity in the basement and it is high. Is this something I can troubleshoot and fix or should I just buy a new dehumidifier? The unit is about 3 years old.

I have an LG model LHD65EBL dehumidifier. The humidistat will not change from 70 when I push either + or -. The fan runs well and the compressor sounds like it is running well Some water comes out when the...

Prt of the problem may be a dirty or clogged air intake filter.

Turn the unit OFF and unplug, it before removing the filter to check and clean it.
You can ether vacuum it or if it's really dirty & clogged, wash it in warm water and mild dish washing liquid. Rinse thoroughly, shake off access water and allow it to dry completely, before reinstalling it.
Never operate the unit without the filter in place. As this could damage the unit.

Plug the unit back in and turn it ON. Try lowering the humidity extraction level now, using the arrow down button. For a very damp, humid basement application 35% is a good setting to start with for several days.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

My dehumidifier compressor runs and then shuts off, then runs and shuts off, continuously. The fan continues to run. It seems to be pulling water, though it's hard to tell how much because I have a...

Part of the problem may be that you have the humidity level set to high. The fan runs constantly to move the air around. When the unit senses a humidity level higher than what you have it set for, the compressor turns ON. Once it's ON, if the humidity level is short lived, it turns OFF.

Try setting the humidity level to the lowest possible setting. Usually, that 45%. If the humidity level in you home is higher than that, the compressor should turn ON and run until either the bucket is full or the humidity level reaches 45%. If this doesn't solve the problem, turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF and unplug the unit from the wall outlet for 12-15 minutes. Plug the unit bakc in, turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON and set the humidity level at it's lowest setting. Allow the unit to run until it cuts OFF and check the bucket for water. Hopefully that 12-15 minute time out allowed the unit to reset itself.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

Compressor sounds as if its on, the fan is on, but water is not extrated from the air

If the room air is less than the set air then there is no water in the bucket because there is almost no humidity in the air. If it is winter, there is likely not enough humidity in the air to have water collect in the bucket. A dehumidifier will only pick up humidity out of warm air. If you are running a dehumidifier in your basement in the winter, the room may be damp, but too cold for the dehumidifier to pull out the humidity. Try running the unit in the bathroom after having a hot shower without the bathroom fan on. If working correctly the unit should draw water.

In addition, check to see if the air filter is dirty and/or blocked. Also, the room temperature might be too low, (below 15.5 C/ 60F) and finally, check to make sure that there is no obstruction to the unit, that might be causing poor airflow circulation.

I hope this helps you to troubleshoot and solve the problem.

Santa fe dehumidifier running but not producing any condensate. No ice forming on the coils and filter is clean.

You should check if the compressor is running. Your description makes it appear that the fan may be running and the compressor may not be running.

There are many things that can cause a compressor to cease running:

Open defrost thermostat
Bad run capacitor
Low refrigerant charge (caused by refrigerant leak)
Bad compressor relay
Bad compressor overload
Bad compressor motor

Other things to check:

If the fan switch is set to "on" and the humidity control is set to a high humidity level, the unit may appear to be running, but the compressor will not operate. Check the setting of your humidity control.

If the dehumidifier is operating in a room with a high temperature and a low dew point (very low relative humidity), it may be unable to remove any more moisture from the air.

If you are not comfortable troubleshooting the unit on your own, call the manufacturer service department at 1-800-533-7533, EXT 8459. They are very helpful.

Kenmore dehumidifier M/N 580.53650200 only runs for about 1 minute, then stops. Dehumidifying level is set to minimum (40) and it's damp in the basement so I know the air is not too dry. The fan works, the...

Well to knowledge the problem 40 percent is dry. means your basement is great. humidity should be 30/50 percent 50 grows mold. also if it runs for a min the auot shut off is activating. check this first.

My new Danby dehumidifier never shuts off

This unit is designed with the intention of the fan running all the time. The compressor cycles on and off with demand, however the fan runs continuously to provide constant room circulation.

LG LD65EL Dehumidifier doesn't work properly

What do you have the humidity level set at on your dehumidifier? The average is 65%. Make sure you do not have it set at 75% because if you do this could be causing it to keep the humidity so high.

Unit runs a lot. Doesn't condense much water. Sometimes fan runs alone, sometimes compressor runs alone.

You may also want to check the coils and make sure they do not have dirt or dust on them. If they are clean you may have an issue with the refrigerant level which will cause the coils not to cool properly. For that you will want to contact LG. There could be an issue with the compressor also. LG backs alot of their models with a 5 year warranty. Contact them and let them know about your issue. Make sure you still have your reciept. DH30 Dehumidifier Compressor Does not Operate

I just picked one up at a tag sale, seller said it worked sometimes. Seems to have the same problem as yours. I took the time to tweak all of the connections and then re-soldered the control board with no luck. I finally disconnected the humidity control and it worked fine. By disconnecting the humidity control the unit defaults to it's highest setting and you have to unplug the unit to turn it off. Conclusion so far is that the humidity control rheostat is bad.
Note: Now while running the fan runs continuously and the compressor cycles on and off every 10 to 15 minutes. This may to be normal since the unit appears to be doing its job and I'm not sure how it is supposed to run since a purchased it broken.
