Have lenoxx ht 500 surround sound speakers & dvd but dvd is broken, need to purchase another dvd player but can't source lenoxx model, what other models can i connect surround sound to? or whe

You would have to get it set up to be able to play with the surround speakers and be able to play with surrounded sound as well.

Probably cannot do this. Surround systems often have proprietary speaker hookups, and are not meant to be attached to other sources.

You have to hook up the audio cables to the TV from the DVD stand alone player. Red and White is audio and Yellow is Video. The player will play movies and the sound should go to your TV speakers. If not you will need to set it on the TV in the audio source to play from your speakers on the TV. John

Hi, the Panasonic t.v. more than likely has more than one kind of output. One of them should be actually lit up with a red glow around the edges, that is the fiber optic digital sound output. It's called a" TOSLINK" connector and is plugged into a matching jack on the surround sounds rear panel. The t.v. may also have a "LINE OUT", " T.V. AUDIO OUT " or " FIXED AUDIO " output this may be in the form of a small 3.5mm stereo headphone jack ( i still call them 1/8 in. plugs) this you can plug into the surround sounds line input on the back panel. I realize this may sound silly but it could be the disc your are playing. Some DVDs are not mixed for surround sound and thoes that are produce very little sound from the rears.

Rear speakers were meant for effect, not meant to distract you from the picture.

Give this a try, get a movie playing that is 5.1 surround sound. Check that the home theatre is not set to stereo mode, if it is change the surround mode on the unit. Now that you are in the middle of an action scene disconnect the front speakers and see if there is background noise comming out of the rears.

If its still dead let me know more details about the system and I will work on a solution.

HDMI is fantastic in that's the only thing you need to plug in to get what you want.
You'll need two of them however. Plug one end of the HDMI cord into the HDMI "OUT" on the dvd player and the other end of it to the receiver..labeled HDMI 'IN' Then, take the second cord and do that step with the receiver back to your big screen...HDMI OUT to IN.
Surround sound from TV sources only needs a L&R audio cable connected to the receiver input labled TV or MONITOR audio IN. Unless you'd like 5.1 dolby digital or DTS from the television that requires devices that you haven't mentioned owning. In that case you will be able to get Dolby ProLogic and Pro Logic II from stereo broad casted sources on your TV.

It must be about the sound quality need of your amplifier. The sound processor simply needs to get clear signals from sources such as fm/am receiver, dvd/cd players etc. in order to manage'em to give you the optimum surround sound. If the fm receiver has an "FM MUTE" option, I recommend that you turn it on. By doing so, you'll receive only good quality fm stations, furthermore your amplifier will let you get surround sound. The second issue you mentioned has its own answer inside. Use a "new" cd player, you can get optical cables, digital coax cables to improve the performance if you like..
