Water comes out of "fill funnel" on side of dishwasher when energising the water valve, it comes out of the small rectanged hole in the fill funnel. If I turn down the water pressure to the dishwasher the water does not overflow from this point. Is it nessasary to have this airation system or can I block the hole with something? John
Hi . the air gap is required by law, to have it there.to stop water in the tub, to end up in your water system, which would never happen. try setting the pressure down, and use the dishwasher. it should work fine . turn down taps ,till it stops leaking . should be ok

When the Dishwasher won't fill you'll need to
check for the water inlet hose, the water inlet valve and the float switch
assembly. When the water fills your dishwasher, a float rises along with it. As
the float reaches a certain threshold level, it shuts off the flow of water,
thereby preventing a leak. Sometimes the float can get stuck in the wrong
position in your dishwasher, and it can prevent your dishwasher from filling.
Sometimes it can happen due to float valve and on other occasions due to float
switch. Inspect the water hose coming to the dishwasher for any blockages. If the
hose is not clogged then check the water inlet valve for any clogs, if the
water will not even fill for few seconds then certainly the water inlet valve
is bad and should be replaced. You can also use a multimeter to check
continuity on inlet valve. If you don't get any value on the multimeter then
you'll need to replace the water inlet valve assembly. However, if the valve is
fine then the float switch assembly should be replaced. Hope this helps...

dishwasher will not fill with water: This is often the fill valve. You can test the fill valve coil for continuity with a ohm meter, no needle movement = bad fill valve. You can also test the fill valve for 120 volts at the fill valve with a volt meter, power there and no fill = bad fill valve. No 120 volts there, you will have to trace power back to find the trouble maker. Test things like the float and float switch, wires and timer. Fill valves are very bad for working once or twice and then quitting, if your dishwasher fills the first and second fill cycles and then no more water through the rest of the cycle, replace the fill valve. You will need to remove the access panels to get at the fill valve. Dishwasher fill valves also have a screen built into the valve entrance, this can also get all clogged up and need to be cleaned. -----There's no water entering the machineIf there's no water entering your dishwasher, check these:Water-inlet valveFloat switchWater-inlet valveThe water-inlet valve lets water enter the machine. If this valve is defective, you need to completely replace it. It's usually located behind the lower access panel on the left or right side. It's the device with the main water line (usually copper) from the house, a rubber tube to the dishwasher, and two wires attached to it.Float switchThe float switch is a small electrical switch that's located right below the dishwasher "floor." Above the switch, on the inside of the dishwasher, is a plastic cylinder that floats up as water fills the dishwasher. If this switch is defective, or if the plastic float gets caught or trapped in the raised position, the water can't enter the dishwasher. If the float switch is defective, you need to replace it.

On bosch dishwasher if the base senses a water leak the unit will not
fill & the drain pump will come on. I recommend checking for water
in the base & locating the source of the leak if you see water in
the base. Other possibilities; fill switch, water level switch or water
valve. There is no reset for this problem.
the only parts that usually leak are the motor shaft seal or the fill valve connector. The fill valve seal is usually lower than the motor, try putting in a small amount of water manually and increasing the level until the leak shows up. The device that is then covered in water is the leaker
Putting vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher is not going to help because it has nothing to do with the FILL cycle. The bottom (or sump) actually is used during the WASH and DRAIN cycles. I would check the fill port where the water inlet hose goes into the side of the wash tub. You will need to pull the unit out and locate the inlet hose on the SIDE of the dishwasher. The hose should be a black rubber hose located on the left-hand side of the machine. I had a very similar problem that turned out to be calcium deposits clogging the fill port BEFORE it got to the fill valve. With the unit turned off, I removed the rubber hose and used a small screwdriver to poke straight down into the fill port and break up a bunch of calcium. The unit worked fine after that. It is normal for some dishwasher models to drain if they do not detect enough fill water, or if they detect a leak. Usually when the fill port becomes restricted or clogged you will find puddles of water forming under the dishwasher. You might want to remove the bottom panel and check for leaks as well (if you haven't done so already).
If you check the fill port and it is clear, the fill valve could be a possibility as well. However, you mentioned you could hear water running which leads me to believe that you have a simple clog somewhere...but, the valve could have accumulated some deposits as well. Check the fill hose and let me know. Good luck and I hope this helps you.
PS Another common mistake people make is to put drain cleaner in their dishwashers. This can damage the pump and chopper assembly. Not to mention, it could be harsh on the some of the rubber seals. Not a good idea.
depends on the sequence. many, but not all, dishwashers start with drain to get rid of the slops. if yours starts with fill, then no water supply will prevent progress.(you should be able to hear a low hum which is the valve energised)
check also that the door is closing properly and latching.
better to use cold water fill not hot
Step1 Inspect the door gasket. As it ages, the gasket can crack or become hard, preventing it from sealing completely. Step 2 If the gasket appears solid, adjust the door latch so the door seals tightly. Loosen the screw that holds the door latch to the cabinet. Push the latch in slightly and retighten the screw. Test the door and readjust the latch if necessary. Step 3 Replace the gasket if water continues to leak after you've tightened the latch. Most gaskets are held by compression in a groove on the door or on the dishwasher cabinet. Step 4 Pull the old gasket out of its groove, using adjustable pliers (see illustration). Take the gasket to an appliance store to get a replacement. Step 5 Soak the new gasket in warm water to soften it, then press it into the groove. Start at the top, then work your way down the sides and across the bottom.
