I can`t make phone calls out of the contact list on a Nokia C5? I can make and receive phone calls from a Nokia C5, but cannot make calls out of the contact list - nothing happens when the green `phone` button is pushed, or the `select` button is pushed when a contact number on the contact list is highlighted.

I am having a similar problem with my phone currently, it is a firmware issue that can be solved by doing a factory reset on the phone, however i am not doing it for now, because a new Firmware from Nokia has come for 5800 which is v40.0.005 and it is not yet out for the Indian phones so i am waiting to upgrade to this version.
Meanwhile to access the call log you can try this option, change the home screen theme to contacts bar from settings and then when you press the phonebook shortcut key or dialler shortcut key it would work
After you press the dialler shortcut key and you see the dialler on the phone screen press the green button it would show the call log.

hi, it is very possible it is like that...what normally causes such is when you have your contact saved on phone memory twice.all you need to do is to delete one.

This is a very common issue with nokia phones. It occurs mainly when you have stored a particular number with more than one name.
For example if you have a number stored to your sim using one name and you have it stored to your phone memory with another name. In most cases, when you install a new SIM card to a nokia phone, it might copy the contacts from the SIM memory to the phone memory automatically and add some extra information or edit the name automatically. This can cause a conflict between which name the phone should display when any action associated with the number is to be performed. In this case, it displays just the number.
To solve this problem without having to delete any contact, all you need to do is to go to your contact settings and then select which memory should be the default display memory.
