Maytag dishwasher heavy door (broken door spring(s))?
I have a Maytag dishwasher (it is called Jetclean) and was bought sometime around 1995. The door has become very heavy, probably a broken doorspring. I want to know how I can fix it myself.

yes tere are springs and a small pulley system located on both sides on the bottom you can order the parts and have the sent to you directly by looking up marcone appliance when u order the parts order both springs and also order the pulleys as a kit whcih also comes with the corded returns new also if you dont order them as a kit r ask for the kit you end paying more for just the pulleys alone and you might find one of those returns are broken good idea to have allthe parts replaced the first time when you do the job shut off the power diesconnect the screws that hold your dishwasher in place and pull the entire unit outward make sure u have shut off the water supply and that your hose to the water inlet vavle is long enough to be pulled outward. when you pull the unit out you willbe able to see both bottom sides and will most likely find a broken pulley or return hope this helps
The latch on many dishwashers is adjustable. If your door is easy to close but difficult to latch, adjust the latch to let the door close more easily. If you can't see any way to adjust the latch, yours may be fixed in a certain position. Check for other reasons for the latching problem.
If the latch has worn out in a way that makes it impossible for you to close the door properly, you probably need to replace the latch.
Your dishwasher has two springs that counterbalance the weight of the door. If either or both of these are broken, the door feels quite heavy and you need to replace both springs.

http://www.partstore.com/ They have the spring for sure don't know about the cord. You may have to call them for that part. They have a number on the website
John,
I had the same problem and just disassembled by removing the dozen or so screws around the inside of the door, lifting the waterproof panel, and pulling up the latch assembly to see what was broken. In my case there were plastic pieces broken off of the latch handle and where the latch hinges on the back of the control panel-the latter piece is $50 to replace. unfortunately. Good news is the disassembly and replacement will be easy as a DYI. Sorry this is too late to help you, but maybe others will have the same problem.
