Microwave Buttons Not Working

For a few months the buttons on my frigidaire fmv156dcc microwave oven have worked sporadically. The fan and light button, and most times the 6 button work with no problems but the rest of the buttons are not responsive when pressed. This started happening when I was cooking on the stove but 2 months the electricity kept going on and off on their own, which had no effect on the other electronics but it made the buttons nonresponsive on the microwave.

Since yesterday, now the buttons have not worked at all. I tried a hard reset (twice) but no luck. I haven't used my stove for a few days, before the buttons stopped working.

Any ideas besides buying a new microwave all together?

The cycling of your electricity probably didn't hurt it.

Chances are moisture or grease has gotten into the controls. That can ruin the keypad.

The way to prevent that is to be sure you have the microwave's hood vent exhaust fan running whenever you are cooking on the stove top.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace the keypad yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

If you would like to have us do this for you, we do that for $39.95 plus part costs.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.

My two year old Frigidaire Microwave suddenly stopped cooking. All of the buttons work. The lights, the fan, the timer, and even the cooking timer operate. It's just that the light goes on and the timer...

Check the plug. If the vault is 110v or 220v etc.

If the plug seems to be right, but still not
working, you should buy a new one
with a good name brand you can trust.
It's better than paying for repairs and future repairs.
