Connect PS3 for playing/viewing blue-ray thru surround sound

Hello you all-

The only HDMI connection on the surround sound is HDMI out for DVD only.  This leaves only the Y, Pb/Cb, Pr/Cr digital optical connection to possibly transport HD from PS3.

So far, I'm only successful in connecting straight to my Sony Bravia W3000 TV with HDMI cords to see 1080p for gaming and movies.

Connection from PS3 using AV Multi with end connections of Y, Pb/Cn, Pr/Cr and Audio L/R (Audio not used when connecting) + digital optical audio to Surround sound system doesn't produce any type of sound or video.  Connection of this AV-multi straight to TV produces only 480i resolution.

I made sure to change the PS3 out to the 5-component/AV connection and changed audio to digital optical.

Any thoughts?  Has anyone gotten PS3 or Xbox to connect to the surround to play blue-ray AND game?

Thanks!
I own a sony surround sound system, DAV-HDX465 and I have no idea on how to hook it up with my PS3......Help!

I just finished setting up my system last night and was facing similar problems with sound/video from my PS3. The only option I could get working was to have the HDMI cable connected from the PS3 to the TV and then connect the Optical cable to the receiver for sound. I was under the impression that HDMI handles sound and video but for whatever reason the PS3 does not agree.

I have DTS sound and fantastic picture now through my PS3, hope this helps.

Cheers

SOURCE: Connect PS3 for playing/viewing blue-ray thru surround sound

Connect the PS3 to your TV with the hdmi cable and to the surround sound system with a digital optical cable, then set your PS3 to output sound through the optical port (through the sound options menu) and you're good to go!

How to connect PS3 to surround sound

Firstly if you have a HDMI Supported TV, change the video output settigns to HDMI on the PS3

Then change audio output to scart.

Then remove the scart block from the Scart that came with the PS3 and connect the red and white into the co-insiding ports on the back of your surround sound DVD player.

Set DVD player to AUX and away you go!!!!!

Hope this helps

I just bought a Blue Ray player but my surround sound has a dvd player built in and only one input which I have my new Sharp TV plugged into. How can I hook up my Blue Ray . I have the HDMI cables

Depending on if your surround system has a hdmi input or not. if it does you can connect the blu-ray player to it. If it doesn't have an hdmi input you will have to run the hdmi cable from the blu-ray to the tv then run a set of rca cables (red and white plugs) from the tv audio out to the surround systems' audio input jacks to get sound through the surround system. Most surround systems don't have an auxiliary input for another video device.

Your LG tv should have an optical output socket,if your surround system has one as well,(input) then connect an optical lead from the tv to the system, then select either input 1 or opti 1(depending on your system) you will then get the sound from whatever you are watching on the tv

How to connect BLU-RAY DVD player to Pioneer Plasma TV via HDMI

The best possible solution to your problem is :
Connect your blu ray player directly to the HDMI input of you Plasma and watch HD video....
and connect the 5.1/7.1 sound thru the optical or the coaxial link directly to your AVR 3805.
You will not loose anything on the Blu-Ray.
The sound is best processsed by the AVR3805, while the video, which is the real upgrade (BluRay) in terms of resolution of picture would be processed by your plasma.

Connect and Enjoy
