Mine didn't recognize either, so what I did is go into the device manager, find the opal in the listings, double-click, disabled the device, re-enabled it, at which time it shows that there's a firmware error. I then re-installed the driver from the cd, unplugged the opal, plugged it back in, and for whatever reason, the computer then recognized the opal as a mass storage device, instead of a portable music player. The computer now sees it everytime, and all I have to do is drag and drop any files I want into the opal. Works like a charm. Hopefully RCA will provide an updated firmware program in the near future, but this might work for you for now. Good luck!

Had the same problem with a freinds RCA. Wouldn't recognize in his pc. Took it to my house. Seemed to work in mine. You could try that or...
Plug it in. Right click My Computer and hit properties. Go to device manager under the hardware tab and see if there's a flag under it. It should be under storages. If you dont see it try scanning for new hardware. If you do see it with a flag delete it from there and again scan for new hardware.
If it still doesnt work. Try searching for the driver for the device. Download and install without it being plugged in.

Yes, I had the same issue with mine too. Actually, the disk is write protected. You must unwrite protect it first. The instructions on how to un write protect it are on this site. (note: some may not be useful, it didn't work for mine...) http://www.fixya.com/support/t248942-remove_write_protect_usb_flash_drive

look at page "3/9" of this document
"http://www.pqi.com.tw/upload/download/SD%20%284%29.pdf" and it will
show on the lower right hand side of the picture a slot that says "write
protect", move that tab to unlock the card.
BTW this is a good technical document for SD cards in general if you are interested in how they function.
