SOURCE: HOTPOINT WD420 TRIPS ALL THE SOCKETS IN MY HOUSE

You have a fault on the machine which is a dead short or an earth leakage.

Neither can be sorted out without a set of testers and some knowledge

Unless you can get hold of a resistance checker and know how to use it call a in a repair person

I have a Hotpoint Aquarius WD420 washer/dryer that is not heating the washing water, yet does heat when in drying mode. Does the machine use the same heating element for washing and drying, or are there...

There is a seperate element for the water heater. so likely to be a faulty heater or thermistor which is fastened toi the element
You really need a test meter to determine which part is faulty.

What does f-03 mean?

Hi

Error F03 in Hotpoint washer means that the thermistor is open. When thermistor turns bad it will not let the water to heat or in some cases will boil the water to extreme temperatures. You’ll need to replace the thermistor to resolve this issue. The thermistor is located in the motor control unit. Inspect the element if its open circuit, it should read 1500-1800 ohms on Rx1 on the multimeter, if not then element is bad. To check/replace the element remove the lower rear panel. Hope this helps...

F 03 showing on machine

Yes F-03 indicates a faulty thermistor (it's inside the heating element at the back). Before calling an engineer, just open the bottom rear panel and check that the connector has not come loose (OR IN MY CASE FALLEN OFF COMPLETELY). This can happen if there is a spin cycle that runs out of balance big time. (two thin wires on a square unit about 5mm in size fitted to the middle of the heating element).

Not drying , spins and makes all the right noises but no heat

The fault is probably due to thermostat or element not working.
Remove the top cover, and you will see the heater manifold on the top right of washer, this is where the stats and element are located.
Also check for broken wires.

Hotpoint wt746 flashing f 03

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. By error F03 in Hotpoint washer we mean that the thermistor is open. This will not let the water to heat or in rear cases will boil the water to extreme temperatures. You’ll need to replace the thermistor to resolve this issue. The thermistor is located in the motor control unit. Also check the element if its open circuit, you’ll get a reading of 1.5-1.8K ohms on the multimeter, if not then element is bad. The element is also located in the motor control unit. You can check them by removing lower rear panel.

Wd420 does not dry washing.

Your dryer exhaust may be full of lint. You may have a defective thermostat. Sounds like you need to call a repair specialist if cleaning out the lint from the exhaust ductwork doesn't help.

No heat

Check on the back of the drum for a thermal fuse or relay. Common fault on tubledryers is no power to heating coils becuse of blown fuse or most likely the relay to heating coils is dirty. have to be cleaned about every 2/3 years depending on use.

Check first the thermal fuse.

Test heating element to ensure is not grounded, and staying always on. Test the fan and ventilation system.

If you find no fault in there , then test the timer control board.
