It only has 32megabytes of capacity built in. It may be full. If you added an SD card for more memory, it likely needs to be formatted for the camera; Especially if you had used the card on a different camera previously.
Clear the memory, and/or format and you should have it working fine.
You can check the overall function of the camera portion by hooking it up to the TV with the cable.

If you have the manual, check the index for "Formatting" and then simply follow the steps in the manual to format the card in the camera- which is the best method, which will prompt you through the steps via the LCD screen.
Alternately go to the setup options navigating through the LCD menus until you reach "Formatting memory". Make sure the batteries are fresh or you have the optional power cord attached. Also set camera to "Auto" mode so it does not shut off inadvertantly while formatting.
With the camera connected to your computer, if it has it's own download program, open that and it should have an option under "tools" or similar title to Format.the SD card.
If you have an SD card reader that you are using to retrieve images to the computer, you can try plugging in the SD card into that reader and then format it from "My Computer" by right clicking on the correct icon for the SD card and selecting "Format".

Check to make certain you dont have it set to IR Test. If it is set to test it will flash when it detects a presence but it will not take a pic. This is a tool intended to allow you to check the range of your IR sensors only. The IR Test needs to be off when you want it to actually take pics. Hope this helps
