My nad 1700 tuner hooked up to a nad 2400 power envelope works at times for radio, no music. The cd player works all the time. So that means it's not the power envelope amplifier ? It's the tuner ? Do I have my monster cables hooked up from the amp to the tuner in the wrong manner ?

SOURCE: NAD tuner

Depending on your audio power needs, any will work except receivers that already have integrated tuners.

I have owned an NAD 705 Receiver for many years, and am just now having problems (probably over 20 years old). I'm getting a message on the screen of the receiver that says 'protection' .

if the receiver turns on and operates then eventually turns off due to protection mode its because a wire is shorting out the receiver.if it doesn't turn on or goes straight into protection mode then its probably time for repairs or a new receiver.

I have a old NAD 214 amp. I think its broke. the music sounds like a cheap cell phone in a fringe area. One channel plays at a time, in and out signal bad. What is this?

Sounds like your control pots are dirty. Remove the knobs. Get some good cleaner at Radio Shack. Something with alcohol, and some other ingredients which will remain. Try tuner cleaner, blue shower, etc. Spray the cleaner into the pots and rotate end to end. May have to do this several times to get all the dirt. When it starts to sound like it used to you are done. Let me know how this works out.

Power middle speaker

Yes, you must hook the center speaker to a tuner, or it will not work.

Amplifier is about shot, need to replace IC pack or transistors (whichever it has). Could, remotely, be the speaker lines are installed incorrectly?out of phase. + to +, - to - from amp to speakers. Some amps will protect themselves when this condition occurs till fixed.

No sound with discs playing

There should be some sort of outboard amplifier. Mine had an amp at each speaker, and also a receiver mounted behind the passenger seat. Could it be that the power antenna lead from your headunit is connected to the amp turn-on lead? That way, when the radio is playing, the antenna lead is powered and thus the amps are too, whereas when the CD is playing, the antenna lead would not be powered and thus no sound. Try reversing these two wires (Power antenna and amplifier turn-on) and your CD should work.
