I have my XBOX 360 hooked up to my HP W2007 monitor. When I power on the xbox the monitor comes out of sleep mode for a few seconds then goes back into sleep mode. I can't get the monitor menu up or anything in the short amount of time (menu doesn't come up if in sleep mode I am assuming). Xbox 360 + VGA cable works flawlessly on other monitors, just not mine.
The monitor is bad
if it will not power on,
or show NOSIG< with XBOX on then turned off the monitor must show NOSIG>
why not test the monitor on any pc made even laptops VGA jacks works, so that works, its not the monitor.
and bad xbox video caused. but is not it. as you said.
the menu needs sync lines active. to pops the OSD button menu.
so the monitor is bad.
or the cable.

HP W2007
users guide last page.
This HP product contains mercury in the fluorescent lamp
in the display LCD that might
require special handling at
end-of-life:
that means CCFL died, also all do, soon.
(as short as 2 years, full time , they die. 20k hours)
out of your service manual it shows.
what any running pc connected the OSD menu most work
not in sleep mode.
if there is sinc, H/V pins active
that OSD must work or the blacklamp is dead
use flashlight see, there is data there, see?

No, no virus. This is usually a power supply problem. I see this thing all the time with LCDs. If you montior is less than 3 years old Dell should replace it for you.
Just go to this link:
https://support.dell.com/support/supportrequests/create.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen
Type in your PC's service tag and click send them an email or do what I do and use the online chat feature. It is quick and easy. You'll need to give the very log serial number off of the back of the monitor (usually begins with the letters MX, CN, or MC).
However, if it is older than 3 years you may be stuck buying a new display. Luckily there are some great deals now on new LCDs....let me know how it goes.

Sounds like a bad graphics card. Try using monitor wit another computer and see if the problem still exists. This rules out the display.

From my experience, it probably means that there's a problem with the COMPUTER, rather than the monitor... Please follow my tips here.
