Don't have power on PS2 keyboard port

I'm going to need even more information; The devices that use PS2 connections, which device is it, and how many of those devices do you have?

One thing that might be a problem, if the issue you see is intermittent, I would check the PS2 connector and see if the pins are bent or broken. PS2 connector pins sometimes will bend or break and this can cause some connection issues if not completely stop the keyboard/mouse from working... Also given the age of your PC the PS2 port may just be bad, but this is not a fatal injury to a computer.

Replacing the Keyboard and Mouse with a standard USB keyboard and mouse, should resolve all of your issues.

PS2 is an older technology that keyboards and mice used to run on; Now however USB connections are used.

Further more, if this an HP Desktop with 2 USB ports on the front, and 4 USB ports on the back, you will want to avoid using the 2 USB ports on the front, especially on older HP and Dell Desktops, the reason is the power supplies often do not have enough power to run multiple USB devices on the front USB ports.

The back ports should be fine regardless of the number of devices.

Maybe you keyboard is bad or your keyboard has been hijacked by a virus.

Make sure you keyboard is plugged in good on the back of the computer. If the end of your keyboard that plugs into the computer is Round and it plugs into the green port on the back of the computer you have a PS2 (serial) type of keyboard and you cannot unplug it and expect it to work if windows has already booted up. If you remove this type of keyboard connection, you have to Reboot your machine otherwise the keyboard is locked.

If the end of your keyboard that plugs into the computer is Flat, then you have a USB type of keyboard that goes into the computer's USB Port. This type of keyboard is Plug and Play so you don't have to reboot if you remove it. If you have this type maybe the USB Port you plugged it into does not work, so try plugging into another USB Port.

Try booting in Safe Mode and see if the keyboard performs.
Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn itback on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFEMODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will lookdifferent to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this isnormal.

There's any number of reasons why you would experience such problems and also various solutions that might work.
- One of the keys on your PS2 connected keyboard might be stuck and your PC's BIOS assumes you're trying to boot from your floppy drive at the boot up sequence. Check your motherboard's manual for what key that might be and visually inspect it if it's stuck or there's signs of any el. conducting liquids under it or around its base. If such is the case, try rocking the stuck key gently until it gives and returns to its proper position or help it up with a toothpick. You can also use a dull tipped tootpick or soft cotton earbud to clean underneath it, if needed.
- Your PC's BIOS is set so that floppy drive is your first boot device and you forgot to remove non-system floppy disk in it. Remove the disk from the drive and see if your error disappears.
- Your floppy disk drive (FDD) might be corrupt and causing other el. problems on your motherboard, possibly including confusion in the sleep states of your PC. Try disconnecting the power cord off your FDD and see if that helps.
- If you don't really need your floppy disk drive, go to your motherboards BIOS (see manual for how to do that or follow on-screen instructions at boot-up sequence) and either disable your FDD completely, or change the boot-up order so it's not listed before your optical drive and your hard drive. Save changes and reboot.
- Your floppy disk drive might be dead and your motherboard's controller has problems reading from it (regardless if there's disk in it or not). Disconnect power cord and the signal cable from your floppy drive and reboot your PC.
Of course, it could be something else and you'll have to clarify exactly what error codes you get. Still, maybe one of the suggestions above do the trick ;)

hi ''' if your keyboard is brand new and you just bought it on a store so it is guaranteed good, then you tell me when you connect it to your PC it does not work '''' try to do it again, shot down properly your PC and then connect key board , after boot wait for it to be detected

if you were flasing the bios and it was interrupted you might be **** out of luck if the bios was compltedly erased. the only thing you can do is try flashing the bios again , make sure it is compatible

Your keyboard needs to be pluged into one of either a USB port, if it has a USB connection or a PS2 Port if it has a PS2 connection.

USB is the rectangular shaped port, while the PS2 is a round, usually purple coloured connector.

Try pluging it in and out, with USB connection type try another USB port at the rear of the chassis or on the front too.

It is possible that the keyboard is faulty, in other words it has come to the end of it's life. Meaning that you may need another keyboard.
Try this keyboard on another computer, a friends computer will do. You could even try a friends keyboard in this computer as another test.

Hello there, Mostly, you need nothing to connect it to your pc, just push usb/ps2 in your pc.
Otherwise, some multimedia or gamers keyboards need to install cd with drivers (which came with drivers), so you can use all additional multimedia keys.

Try a different keyboard on your computer.
If that works, try your keyboard on a different computer.
If it fails, then replace the keyboard.
