Last night we we washing close when the washing machine started to make a terrible grinding noise like 2 "unaligned" worm gears hitting each other. I believe this is a direct drive machine.
Over-all symptoms are:
1) Makes a grinding noise during spin or rinse cycle cycle - barrel does not spin.
2) No noise during wash cycle - agoitator does not spin.

I had the same grinding noise. Looked at the belt and drum seemed to turn by hand so we ran it longer to see what would happen. The next day the drum ceased to function in the rinse cycle and the machine is now down. I am ready to pull it out and pull out the drum to see if drive in motor is shot.
Loud Screeching noises during the rinse and spin cycle
The drum of the front loader Hoover Electron800 Dual Spin washing machine does not move freely if rotated by hand. The washing machine is making high pitch, grinding noises through-out all the cycles. During the final rinse cycle, the clothes are still very wet. Drying during spinning is not effective. What could be the causes of these probllems? How can I fix the washing machine?
