Problem with memory card

Hi All,

I do hope someone can help me with this problem, I have an Optio w30 and have purchased 2 different memory cards both 16GB SDHC, 1 from Sandisk and the other was from Kingmax. I already had a Sandisk 4GB card SDHC card which gave me 1hr video recording at the highest setting, but both 16GB cards only give me the same which I can not understand. I would be very grateful if someone could tell me what I am doing wrong or what I am missing!

Many thanks,
Jan.

Quoting from page 107 of my copy of the manual:

"Recording can continue until the built-in memory/SD memory card is full, or the size of the recorded movie reaches 4GB."

From that, it's apparent that a 16GB card won't let you record longer videos than the 4GB card. It will let you record four such videos, however.

Try recording for a few minutes on the 16GB card. Then, stop the recording and see if the time available resets to one hour again. If not, try taking the card out and putting it back in, and then looking at the recording time available again.

Cameras that record in .mov movie format often have a time limit for a single video. In other words, each video can only be one hour long. But you could still have four hours of total video on that one 16GB card.

Hi,
your camera can only read so many partitions
( File Allocation Tables )
( partitions are sections of the total volume )
Like slices of a cake.
which equals 4 GB, total.

so it will never be able to read more than this.

Like FAT32 on a Pc, will read 32GB
but you could have a 100GB hard drive in the machine, still reads 32GB only, so even on a PC 68GB would be wasted.

The file format on the camera can not change,

So you are stuck with 4GB max reading.

Hope this halps
Regards
Richard.

After scrubbing my hard drive, and re-imaging my computer, I can't find the folders, or pics on my sd card from my optio W30. I can put the sd card back into the camera and veiw pictures, but for some...

The computer has lost track of the format of the card. The easiest thing would be to download the photos to another device and see whether the computer will format and see the card afterwards. Then reload the photos back to the camera or e-mail to your computer.

How do I download videos from my Optio W30 to computer

The best way to download videos (and pictures) from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy videos (and pictures) from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any video/photo cataloging program.

I took photos without memory card inserted and need to transfer the built-in memory photos to memory card. Can someone help me? I have a Pentax Optio M50.

The quickest way to do that is to attach the camera with a USB to the computer directly without any card inserted. Then click Start/My Computer and your internal memory folder should appear as an external memory along with C: D: etc.
There may be also a similar way using the software provided by Canon when you bought the camera?. Hope this works.

How do I clear the memory card? I forgot

Hi Sreese693,

Insert the card into the digital camera, and format the card via the menu. Alternatively, you can insert the card into the reader and format via computer OS.
Hope this helps.

Memory card

Hi and welcome to FixYa.

Your camera will not work with an SDHC card. It must be an SD card.
Don't forget to format the card in the camera after you install it. Elsewise it won't work properly.

Thanks for coming to FixYa, and feel free to rate my solution.

I use 2gb cards in my Optio W10 and format them regularly on my camera every time I am finished transferring the pictures to my hard drive.

Optio 30 SD Card Max Size

You can now get up to 2.0 Gigs (that's 2048MB) of storage on a MiniSD card and all you would need is a SD Adaptor. The following site has MiniSD cards that are 1.0Gig (1024MB) or 2.0Gig (2048MB) and they come with FREE adaptors! http://www.flash-memory-store.com/mini-secure-digital.html As technology increases so will the story size. They are talking about making MiniSD cards that are up in the 5.0gig (5120MB) area. Enjoy!
