Hi All,
I do hope someone can help me with this problem, I have an Optio w30 and have purchased 2 different memory cards both 16GB SDHC, 1 from Sandisk and the other was from Kingmax. I already had a Sandisk 4GB card SDHC card which gave me 1hr video recording at the highest setting, but both 16GB cards only give me the same which I can not understand. I would be very grateful if someone could tell me what I am doing wrong or what I am missing!
Many thanks,
Jan.
Quoting from page 107 of my copy of the manual:
"Recording can continue until the built-in memory/SD memory card is full, or the size of the recorded movie reaches 4GB."
From that, it's apparent that a 16GB card won't let you record longer videos than the 4GB card. It will let you record four such videos, however.
Try recording for a few minutes on the 16GB card. Then, stop the recording and see if the time available resets to one hour again. If not, try taking the card out and putting it back in, and then looking at the recording time available again.
Cameras that record in .mov movie format often have a time limit for a single video. In other words, each video can only be one hour long. But you could still have four hours of total video on that one 16GB card.
Hi,
your camera can only read so many partitions
( File Allocation Tables )
( partitions are sections of the total volume )
Like slices of a cake.
which equals 4 GB, total.
so it will never be able to read more than this.
Like FAT32 on a Pc, will read 32GB
but you could have a 100GB hard drive in the machine, still reads 32GB only, so even on a PC 68GB would be wasted.
The file format on the camera can not change,
So you are stuck with 4GB max reading.
Hope this halps
Regards
Richard.
