Hi Ralph, what do you mean "turn up the receive" ? You can not increase the wattage output without changing internal components. To increase RF gain and max performance you can upgrade your antenna and tune the SWR to 1:1 to 1. Other than that, a power microphone & bi-linear amplifier are the only ways to make it more powerful.

How do take my cobra 18wxst and hook it up it home

A 12volt power supply that puts out at least 5 amps. A base station antenna and some coax. Copper Electronics is a good place to shop. Antron A 99 is a simple base station antenna. It would be nice if the antenna was at 36 feet in the air. Stay away from powerlines!!

Need a service manual need to modify a MR f55 radio to transmit on 161.600 mhz can you help?

Hello,
You want to be able to transmit to the Coast Station on this frequency I assume. The Coast Guard monitors channel 16 at all times. This would be the primary channel in the United States. Your radio is VHF Marine Radio and has a built in frequency range of 156.050 MHz to 163.275 MHz. There is no need for a modification. This is a duplex frequency. What that means is you will transmit on one frequency and receive on another, while on channel 20. You will not need to transmit on 161.600. Turn your radio to channel 20. When you transmit, you will transmit on 157.000. And when the Port responds to you your radio will automatically receive their signal on 161.600. So if you are trying to figure out how to communicate with the port authorities then for that frequency turn your radio to channel 20 and you will be able to communicate with them.

Have cobra 29wxnwst radio. Truck sat for 3 months

Turn up the RF gain all the way and leave it.

RF gain is basically how open your receive is. There is really no reason ever to have it down unless you are trying to hear only close stations to you.

If you RF gain is up, your mic pins my be oxidized, or mic bad.
Try a different mic, and or clean the contacts in the connectors.
