The washing machine will fill and agitate then at the spin cycle it makes a humming noise and smells like something electrical burning. The first incident when this happened it tripped the breaker.i have read everything suggestion on the internet and can't figure it out. I started with jumping the lid switch(no change), then i removed the pump (rotates and with no blockage). all hoses are clear of debris. i followed every wire for signs of short or disconnections. pulled agitator and cabinet nothing blocking inner or outer tub or agitator. The motor couple is present and not broken. i can spin the tub by hand with the clutch or hand in the tub. the agitator i can only spin in the right direction will not budge to the left. manually spun the motor couple and spun the pump. any insight would be very much appreciated. thank you. Aj.

Travioso, there was two service flashes out on this model concerning the seal and bearing which means they had an issue with this washer. The howling noise you are hearing is the bearing and will need the new designed triple seal and bearing kit. This should be covered under your warranty, I believe it is 5 years. The numbers for the service flashes are TDL-0048A-B. Call Maytag and inquire about these service flashes, these should be covered. Catriver.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the transmission in your unit is bad,it has internal gears and the ones involved in the agitation are broke or bad, to replace the transmision is a lengthy process, your best bet is to just scrap it and get a new washer. I don't know if you know this but maytag company is no longer in business. They were purchased by Whirlpool back in November of 2006. One of the reasons is all the poor quality of their appliances. I am a technician that has been doing this for 15 years. The best unit I have seen to date is the Whirlpool Duet. I hardly ever have to work on them. Sorry for the bad news. Hope this helps.

Check to see if it is a pump problem or a transmission problem. First remove both belts see if all the pullys turn freely. if the pump has a tight feel check inside pump for a item jammed in it.look for transmission oil on floor or belts if oil is present transmmision if probably going.ALSO check at the top of the tubs for anything stuk in between tubs.
