My sony prs300 keep switching it self back on all the time but then freezes to opening page

It wont turn off or reset or show on the computer just keeps turning itself on and off and displaying page opening

i remember when the pearl first came out it did that they just told me to let it charge while its off for 12 straight hours I just got the 8110 and im charging it as we speak

Model CME256AS-1D will not go back into freeze cycle and will eventually stop, requiring the unit to be reset.
So is the unit going into a harvest and not going back to a freeze cycle? dose it dump a batch of ice but wont go back into a freeze cycle? before you reset it have you pulled the front cover to see what code it is giving? any time you have to reset it that means it locked its self out on a fault. if unit freezes and go's into a harvest and dumps the ice but dose not go back into freeze cycle check the door switch when the ice dumps the deflector door opens a magnetic switch which tells the board the harvest has finished and then the freeze cycle begins. Now if there is no ice falling off the plate to open the door then the board will time out and try 3 more times to make ice before it locks it out. the same go's for the harvest.

Sony Reader Frozen
This solution applies for issues with Sony Reader Frozen in any model. PRS500, PRS505, PRS700, PRS600, PRS300, PRS900, PRS350, PRS650 and PRS950.<br /><br />1. Connect the reader to the AC Adapter (If available). If not, then connect the Reader via USB to the computer<br /><br />2. Hit the reset button for 3 seconds.<br />Location of RESET button:<br /><br />On the back = PRS500 - PRS505 - PRS 700<br />At the bottom: All the other models<br /><br />3. The red steady light should come on, if not, try the reset again while the unit is connected<br /><br />4. Allow the reader to charge for 40 Minutes (on PC make sure the computer does not go into sleep mode.<br /><br />5. My reader is frozen with the message Firmware update did not complete successfully. Please try again. Will not reset, will not shut off. Now what do I do?
Hi vicky1925!

There is no firmware update for PRS300, I checked on their website www.esupport.sony.com. Maybe sometinhg got corrupted on the internal memory. You can try to do a "Hard Reset" on the eReader. This will set the unit to factory settings and will delete all content:


1. Disconnect the Reader
2. Hit the Reset button at the bottom of the Reader
3. While the reader shows 'Opening Book...' press and hold the number '0' (Zero) and the 'Down Arrow' both at the same time until reset all appears
4. Once you do that you will get a confirmation saying that all content will be removed icon_e_sad.gif you just press number 5 to confirm

If this does not work, contact Sony for service options =(

My sony PRS300 screen is frozen and unable to shut off the screen
I have this same problem with my PRS-300. I can reset it by connecting it to AC power and resetting it, but it continually freezes up, rendering the unit useless. The Sony repair facility in Laredo has had the unit since 8/27 and has not been able to repair it.

Page does not turn PRS300
Hi,

Did you try the reset button at the back?
Resetting does some re-initialization of some non volatile memory.This will solve it.

mine was frozen and I could not turn it off - so I did a SOFT reset (just pressed the reset button with the end of a paperclip) with the reader ON (even though instructions say to turn off I didn't cause this was impossible to do), then slid the power button to reactivate - the yellow light came on, waited a few minutes -and it said opening book - and now all is fine

Keeps turning off
My w880i used to keep turning its self off from time to time which really got on my nerves, so i wedged a piece of papper in the gap between the battery and housing to stop it from moving. It only moves a tiny bit and shouldnt have fixed it but guess what i havent had a problem since. hopefully the freezing problem is related. good luck
