you have to replace prism it has 3 small lcd screens Green Red Blue one of them is beginning to burn they are very expensive strip projector down with no power connected and take damaged screen of then block that area so no light can pass through it with fire resistent material you will get some more life out of it

It sound like the light engine is going out or already out. I would take it to a certified Hitachi dealer have them check it out then I would call Hitachi to have them fix it for free.

Having same problem now for a second time on a 57T500. First time was a bad green bulb that was covered under warranty. Only lasted 2 years....currently debating wether to fix or buy a new set. Bulbs cost about $300. Set is only 5 years old, so very dissapointed with quality.

Calmly explain that you know the white dot problem is rampant, that you know that these failures are being handled out-of-warranty, and that you'd like to have your unit handled similarly. (For the record--never, never get irate with a phone CSR. You get much more with sugar than you do with salt.)
A little research will show you that Texas Instruments is the primary manufacturer of the DMDs. They license other companies to sell their devices in their rebranded units. So any white dot problem can be handled the same way with any other company. Be patient, but be firm. Never be afraid to calmly ask to speak to a supervisor when you don't receive the answer you're expecting.

Hi steve salter, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? Model # of TV would help. If the TV is a DLP it's possible the chip is failing which can be replaced.
