We bought a Haier chest freezer today were getting ready to put it in our garage. But the manal says "do not install your freezer in any location not properly insulated or heated e. g. garage etc. Your freezer was not desinged to operate in temperature settings below 55 F." I read about not putting freezer in garage due to high energy cost in summer. Nobody seems to have a problem in winter. Is this a special problem for this Haier model only?

Thanks. If that's the case why would the manufacturer put a restriction like that?
Even in the depths of winter, when your garage is10 degrees, your freezer is attempting to regulate the temperature inside. So keeping it out there might hurt its efficiency and cost more. I have mine in the garage and have never had a problem as long as I maintain it
That makes sense. We are down in Georgia and temperature in garage never goes below freezing. However I read about lower amphibian temperature may compromise the life span of the freezer and thus void the manufacturer warranty.
