When you bid on an item you can list your maximum bid. Ebay will increment your bid as someone out bids you, untill your max is hit. At the point your max is hit, ebay will email you that you have been out bid.

Yes, you can still retract a bid but only if there are still more than 12 hours left before the listing ends, if there's less than 12 hours you can no longer retract the bid but you need to contact the seller so that the seller can cancel the bid for you.

here's how you can retract your bid;

1. log in to your ebay account then click the site map and then scroll down and click bid retractions under Buying Resources on the left side.
2. then enter the item number in the box where it says "Item number of auction in question" and choose the reason, you can enter wrong amount.
