Thank you so much cardpsycho!  I couldn't find a piece of plastic to wedge the button down, but I taped a penny VERY tightly over the TV/VIDEO button on the set to keep it depressed, and voila!!!  FIXED!
This problem had been so annoying that we couldn't stand to watch TV (ours would get stuck on full volume), and worst of all, the World Series is coming soon!
Thanks again!

    Hi folks,

Just to update, the penny method hasn't work very long, but I still couldn't find a piece of plastic to wedge, so now I've tried the corner of a wooden shim.  I wedged it in until the button was depressed, then snapped it off and taped it down firmly.  So far, so good...  Back to the Red Sox for now...

I have a 60" LCD LED Samsung Tv and I am getting static noise/crackling noise that doesn't go away even with the sound off. The only way to get rid of it is to turn the tv off completely.

Using the volume control buttons on the television itself (not the remote) turn the volume all the way down to 0.
Using the volume controls on the Digital box itself.
Turn up the volume until it is at the maximum.
Using the television's volume controls again; raise the volume to a comfortable level.
If you are still experiencing the audio problems on this television, it is possible there is a loose connection on the television.

Restore sound on my Tv, suddenly lost.

  1. Check if the mute button on the cable box/TV/VCR is activated. If so, turn off the mute feature
  2. Verify the volume on the cable box/TV/VCR is not turned all the way down, either by adjusting the volume level on the equipment itself or with the remote control
  3. Check if the TV has an earphone or headphone jack. If so, make sure there are no earphones or headphones plugged into it
  4. Check if the Cable Box/TV/VCR has a SAP/MTS switch (Secondary Audio Program / Multichannel Television Sound). If so, make sure it is set to the proper setting. Consult your TV/VCR manufacturer's user manual for information for your specific TV/VCR. Click here for information on changing this setting on a Cable Box
  5. Check behind ALL TV and equipment (Cable box, TV, VCR, DVD, stereo receivers, etc) and the coax cable at the wall outlet for any loose or damaged connectors
  6. Make sure all equipment and connections are hooked up correctly for the video and audio based on the type of connections being utilized

External connections to TV - audio, or HDMI - will sometimes mute the TV --- remove all external connections to tv - test.

Why do the TV speakers not silence when the headphone port is used?

Headphone socket connection fault. Not cuts off the internal speaker. Replace the socket with an identical one.

My t.v. turns on for 20 seconds then it just cuts the picture off but i can still hear the sound

The way to test whether or not the television needs to be repaired is to do some things to it after it has cut off the picture. Making sure you can still hear the sound but no longer see the picture turn the volume up and down. If you can hear the volume increasing and decreasing, but you cannot see the volume indicator itself on the screen then you'll know that possibly the inverter(s) is/are loose or that the inverter board needs to be replaced. If you can see the volume indicator moving back and forth across your television screen then you might have a problem with your signal source i.e. your set top box (cable box/satellite tv box), your connecting cables or the connections themselves.

I have a tv (don't remember the make) the volume says it's on 0 but it sounds like it's all the way up. not even the mute button works. i unplugged it and it still stays loud when the screen says it's at...

Not sure whats wrong, maybe a software problem.
I wouldnttry fix it, just adapt, try hooking up a hifi to a decoder or somnething and use that sound, the only irritating thing would be the buzz of the tv volume.

Press tv on the Sky remote

press and hold select and red until the led blinks twice
type in 0 0 6 0
press the power button, if the tv turns off then the press select and the remote should work all the tv functions.

If the tv does not turn off then press tv then the power button and keep doing this until the tv turns off, once it turns off press select and it should work.
