I have a toro mower for little over a year now and it no longer self propells as it should. I am not sure where to start in tacking this issue other than calling professionals to work on it.
My self propelled lawnmower is about a year old... the lever has a wire that goes into a sheath down to the housing. Now that wire is very loose and I can't find anything to attach it to. The clamp for the sheath does no good because the wire is so slack. Thanks for any help you can give. My Toro is front wheel propelled. When I pull the lever to engage it, the belt does get tight but the wheels sometimes turn or not. I tried lowering the cable, didn't do much. Gear and inside of wheels look O.K. There is much slack in the cable. If I try to get the slack out, the wheels freeze and do not move at all. Occasionally it tries to turn, but slowly. Help!

Yes it is the transmission. A Mower shop will charge you about $225 to fix.. I order parts online and fixed mine for $90. Transmission consist of 3 gears which turns the rear wheels to self-propel.
It seems to be an obstruction in your fuel delivery system. Get a can of ether and a spray a short burst of it into the breather area near the carburetor, if the mower starts up and then stalls out, then you may need to get your carburetor serviced.
Toro 20016 self propelled walk behind when the wheels are engaged it moves, when the wheels are not engaged, the wheels look up. What should I do to fix the problem
My Toro Pace Master self propelled 22" 6.75 mower will not move by itself. I can push the mower and cut. It does start with no problem. I have a cable on left side of the mower that extends to the top of the handle broken off at the top of the mower and is loose. Is there a way to check to see if this is why it will not self propel. It attaches to the push handle that does I push down to propel the mower. Any suggestions?
Your self-propel is probably belt driven. Belts can make an awfully lot of noise when unhappy. Possible it has rolled over and is running on the wrong side of the belt or is worn and just needs replaced. Hope this helps.,
