1. Load the system recovery disk into CD-ROM
2. Press F10 repeatedly at boot screen to load the Recovery Menu
3. Press R for the recover console
4. Select "Advanced Options"
5. Press Alt + D to bring up the command prompt
6. type "cd h:\" to enter the root directory
7. type "dir /w" to view the directory in wide view
8. open the master.log file (or something along those lines), this should bring up a prompt asking you what program to open it with, you should only be able to select notepad.
9. open the file with notepad and when it appears select the File>Open
10. in the file name box type in "C:\hp\bin\configcheck\run.py"
11. once the file opens clear the contents and select save as then save the file as run.p_
12. close the notepad program
13. delete the original file by typing "del C:\hp\bin\configcheck\run.py"
14. reboot system

After a reboot the windows screen might flash a few times and take a little longer to load, be patient and you should be able to continue with the windows set-up without that damned code purple error message.

Code purple when turning on computer

Code Purple is a problem exclusive to HP's, the easiest solution is to avoid them. However, it's already too late for you as it was for me. Basically it's an attempt to force you to pay them to service or upgrade your PC, or if you didn't learn the first time, buy another. Here is the most concise answer I found, tried to translate into plain english.

***PLAIN ENGLISH QUICK AND EASY FIX FOR ALL SYSTEMS****
***Windows 7 code purple or Windows Vista code purple***

With the code purple error on the screen, press shift+f10 (the shift key and the F10 key (at the top of the keyboard) at the same time) to open a little screen called a command prompt. (So, you get a little black screen with white text that says something about your Windows verison first and a little ways down you'll see "C:\>". It's all ready for you to start typing.)
Type the following line, just as you see it here...

notepad C:\hp\bin\checkdmi\checkdmi.cmd

so it will look like this C:\>notepad C:\hp\bin\checkdmi\checkdmi.cmd - Note the space between notepad and C:\

Press Enter.

You will see the text for the file listed in a window using a simple text editor.
Go to the beginning of the text. Press enter to make a space. Type this...

goto cleanup

So, whatever comes after, the first line looks like this...

goto cleanup

Save the file and exit notepad and restart your PC. You are good to go

NOTE: From my experience. If you received the Code Purple error during the restore process; after saving and exiting notepad, press and hold the power button until the PC shuts down, wait 15 seconds then restart. If you get a message during start up select "start windows normally". If you don't shut down using the power button and wait for the "windows was unable to finish........", you will likely get the same error again when the system boots. I don't know how to get back to the Code Purple error without doing the restore process again.

How to fix code purple error

for windows XP:
- Get into C:\hp\bin\CheckConfig\cfgchk.bat
- Rename the file "run.py" to "run.p_" or just delete it. (That's the file that verify the hardware configuration for the OEM version)
- Then reboot!
for vista:
- Get into C:\hp\bin\CheckDMI folder
- Rename the file "CheckDMI.cmd" to "CheckDMI"
or
- Edit the file and change the "0" (zero) value (there is only one in the whole file) for "1" value...which means that the hardware configuration respect the terms of the OEM contract.
- Then reboot!

Unable to reinstall DVD backups after HP SYSTEM RECOVERY failed

Code "purple" means you and your computer are done. It is an unrecoverable error that means you need a new system. However, I have found a couple of postings that claim to know a fix. I can not verify these methods, I do not own a HP or other type of prefab PC (custom is the only way to go). Anyway, here are the links, good luck.

I have a code puple on my HP PC a350n..HP says they won't fix it. I thought there was a law suit about this and they Have to fix it. But, I just want to know if ANYONE can.

Code Purple is about the weirdest error you will see reinstalling XP, and it is almost exclusively an HP/Compaq problem.

These companies placed a special system identifier on the motherboard by a process called 'tattooing', and the system recovery routines look for this signature before allowing the install.

It is actually quite easy to bypass this signature check. Here are two entries from an online thread expaining how:

--------

Code Purple can be bypassed by accessing and renaming the file run.py to run.p_. The file is found at c:\hp\bin\configcheck\run.py"

--------

To access the "C:" drive to rename the file:
1. Boot the system with a Win Xp Original Disk.
2. When you have to select "Enter" to reload or "R" for Recovery Console select "R".
3. Select the "H:\minint" Drive to bring up the System
4. At the "H:\minint" prompt, change to the "C:" prompt
5. Change directory to the "C:\hp\bin\configcheck"
6. Rename the file with the command "ren run.py run.p_"
7. Reboot the machine and there should be no "Code Purple" error.
--------

The full thread can be read here:) Note how far it goes back!
