Replacing a fuel pump has nothing to do with instrument cluster lights or the clock staying on. Unless you shorted wires , did you disconnect the negative battery cable before hand ?
The body control module (BCM) performs the following functions:
ā¢ A/C compressor request
ā¢ A/C cooling fan
ā¢ Exterior and interior lighting control
- Daytime running lights (DRL)
- Automatic lighting control
- Fog lamps
- Interior lighting
ā¢ Battery rundown
ā¢ Chime
ā¢ Gauge control
ā¢ Instrument cluster indicator control
ā¢ Fuel gauge control
ā¢ Temperature gauge control
ā¢ Theft deterrent
Interpreting all of the driver warnings sent by the control modules on the class 2 serial data line
Sending the information to the instrument cluster in the form of a SPI serial data bus message
The following list of messages are sent by the BCM to the instrument cluster:
ā¢ Fuel gauge position
ā¢ Temperature gauge position
ā¢ Oil pressure
ā¢ Low engine coolant
ā¢ Check oil
ā¢ Volts
ā¢ ABS
ā¢ High beam
ā¢ Low fuel
ā¢ High temperature
ā¢ Washer fluid level low
ā¢ CRUISE
ā¢ BRAKE
ā¢ SERVICE VEHICLE SOON
ā¢ Door ajar
ā¢ Seat belt
ā¢ THEFT SYSTEM
ā¢ PRNDL
Check the fuel level sensor wires , the fuel level sensor is a input to the BCM .
The light says check gauges? This doesn't mean fluids are low. Look at the gauges, something is out of spec. A common one is the alternator, if the voltage drops below usually 12v, the light comes on.
Disconnect battery ? Hoping for a magical fix ? Battery light on means there is a charging system problem , alternator not the battery . Do you know how to do automotive electrical circuit testing ? If not your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop . How To Check Charging System EricTheCarGuy Some of the problems are likely do to a low voltage condition . It would also have the vehicle control modules checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ! Doing electrical testing of the circuits of the thing's not working etc... is the way to find the problem . Electric Testing Techniques You Need to Know
It takes years to learn how to do electrical test correctly . Someone who has no clue shouldn't even try .
Mine has done this a few times after having disconnected the battery for service. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery a second time brought them back. A mechanic friend told me it hase something to do with the ECM relearning after having been disconnected. Hope this helps.
ABS sensor : If you've been in the snow & slush lately, stop at a carwash & rinse the back side of your wheels off, front, back, over, under, as much as you can, it may be tripped due to sensor covered in dirt or slush and not giving necessary signal. As far as cooling fan coming on, let it sit & idle & watch your temp gauge. When at normal operating temperature + or - a few degrees, it should come on, but watch & see if gauge goes too high towards hot, and it doesn't come on, have fan operation checked.
Sounds like a poor connection or loose connection, stasrt with the battery and clean and tighten cables. then check starter connections, Don't forget to disconnect the battery before you work on starter connections! There are some good contact cleaners available at your local auto store.
