How do I fix faulty Jamo D165 Speakers

Tweeters seem to be working but larger speaker has no sound. Wiring looks OK. I Tried measuring resistance across the two terminals of the large speaker and couldn't get a reading, does this mean the speaker is blown?

SOURCE: Tweeters & Midrange Speakers

If you have a Ohm Meter, check the resistance to the speakers. If it is very high, the speakers are burned, (or the crossover is (just capacitors, and resisters...cheap)). If it is close to 4 ohms check the wiring and connectors..to and at the speakers, most likly the receiver/amp is not blown.

hi, have u first disconnected the tweeters and then checked, as if its on a cross over, the tweeter is in series with a capacitor,if u have a ohms meter or a continuety tester check the tweeter coil if its open, secondly you can have the coil replaced, check if u can get one before buying a new,let me know

SOURCE: The woofer on one of my speakers stopped working.

The voice coil is open, you can look real close at the spider wires that are soldered from the two terminals to the cone to see if they are bad, otherwise you will need new woofer, you can try getting the woofer from partsexpress.com

Okay - My car radio/CD player & tweeters are working, BUT the door & rear speakers only work intermittently - Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this myself?

Take off the door panels, and check connection to the speakers, and trace it back through the door wiring and see if there are any breaks or kinks in the wire, or anywhere the outer coating has come off. It sounds like you may have a short in the system, something isnt grounded right. It can be a long, tiring process attempting to find the issue, but it is the only way. Something that would be cheaper than taking it to a dealer would be to find a local stereo store, and either have them trace it for you (they can use an ohmometer to check resistance and connection), or just have them put standard speakers in and possibly a new deck. It is hard to say without having the vehicle, but it is a wiring issue from the sounds of it. Breaks in wires can come from pinching in the body, under seeats, in door panels, or harnesses connecting to the doors.

I have a pair of jamo R909 speakers that need crossover / board replacement--- any thoughts or suggested repair options? The company has been horrific. Love the speakers, but the company doesn't s

Hi Katrina,
Yes parts are available for your R909 speakers.
firstly I am surprised that you have managed to blow both tweeters and crossovers.....there must of been some serious distortion/amplifier clipping involved there???
So a couple of things.
Can you actually see damage to the crossover boards? If so what components have been damaged? i.e board loactions and parts.
The crossover is available but they are not cheap. $1560 each (AUS)
So it would be preferable and much cheaper to repair them at board level.
Tweeters are also available.. $745.00 each (AUS)

My jamo d115 speaker tweeter distorts or rattels when any serious bass kicks in, how do you stop this?w

Possible this is a distortion from the Amplifier if the speakers are not damaged. however it is important to switch the speakers to confirm if the fault is relative to the particular channel in which case the amplifier is faulty. If not the speaker can be the culprit. All what is needed is to reduce the BASS level a bit lower when the volume is increased so as to allow the cross over to work. Also if teh cross- over network is faulty within the speaker the bass can vibrate on the tweeter.

Stuck in protect mode. reset not fixing it

look for crosses/shorted speaker wires, particyularly, look for loose strands at the ends of the speaker cables to ensure that they are not crossed and shorting the amp out.

if the cables are fine, then check the speakers to see if they are blown. you should be able to gently push the cone of the woofer(s) (the biggest, bass speakers) in gently with your hand for about an inch, with no resistance, before it bottoms out. if there is any resistance while the cone is moving downward, like a scratching or a rubbing inside the speaker, then your vioce coils are fried, causing a short circuit and throwing off the "protect" light.

to test the tweeters (smaller, high frequency speakers) for damage to the voice coils, disconnect them completely from the rest of the speaker, and see if that doesnt cause "protect" to go off. you can also push in on tweeters, but they wont "give" as much as woofers, making it hard to tell if there is any resistance going on inside.

if the problem is not with the speaker wiring or the speakers themselves, then the amp is broken.

Only one of four speakers puts out sound!

Check all your RCA"smake sure they all have output..Then use a fluke metere, or any meter you can get that tests ohms, and measure each speaker..they should all read arround 4. If the outputs from the deck are good, and the speakers measure correctly, then you have got yourself a bad amp.

Will not produce sound through the top end of my speakers,

While this may sound strange, it is not likely the receiver that is the probem, at least at this point. Remove the "tweeters" from the speakers and measure across the two leads. You should read continuity. If not, then the tweeters need to be replaced. I believe that you may have blown the tweeters.

Tweeters????

Hi oddone

You may have a problem with either blown tweeters, or a faulty cross over, or both. If you have a multimeter, you can remove the tweeter, and check it DC resistance. They normally have their impedance marked on the back of the magnet. If not, you can assume they should measure 8 ohms. If they measure open circuit (high resistance), then they have failed.
A good speaker repair guy can often fix an open circuit tweeter as they often break where the very fine wires attach from the voice coil to the terminal. you can take a turn of the voice coil and reterminate to solve this problem. If the voice coils are burnt, they will need to be replaced.
If the tweeter meters ok, then you may have a problem with the crossover capacitors going dry. Generally they are 2.2uf to 6.8uf in value, the smallest cap in the crossover. If the plastic coating on them is split, or they look a different colour to the rest of the caps, replace them, if they sound "hollow" replace em, if you are not sure, replace em. other than that there is not alot more to look for with a speaker box tweeter Good luck and happy listening.

If you have any dramas, get back to me here and we can talk more about it.

Speakers just stopped working

You will need to take the speaker apart and with an ohm meter or continuity tester, measure the resistance of the speaker, at the two terminals at the rear of the speaker magnet, to see if that circuit is "open" ("open" is a reading of no resistance, or no continuity). If it is open, you have no choice but to replace the speaker. If instead the speaker measures a low resistance, or the meter "beeps" to indicate continuity, then do the following: measure the resistance/continuity of the wires which lead from the speaker magnet, to the output terminals on the outside of the speaker box. Also, some speaker manufacturers install small fuses inside their speakers. Even if the fuse does not look "blown", test it for resistance/continuity. Good Luck!
