A little blow by is normal. Make sure the oil level is correct. If there is excessive blow by, then check the reed valve under the valve cover. It may be damaged or loose.

String length is 60 inches. The brace should be 7.5 to 8 inches. Listen for noise and feel for hand shock. Twist the string to add brace. Shoot for the sweet spot. When the bow becomes quiet and the vibration and hand shock is minimal, you have found the sweet spot. Measure your brace height at this point and write it down.
