You have to change the 'storage' to 'memory card' or 'external card' from 'internal memory' or 'camera' using the camera menu.

Card locked shows of view finder, cannot take a picture it shows a't picture but won't take a picture

Look at the memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Computer won't recognize my camera when I plug it in

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

My camera won't save to mass storage

Are you sure it's an SD card? If it's larger than 2GB then it's actually an SDHC card and won't work in the A300.

SD Card Problems with Vivitar Vivicam 5118!

What size is the memory card. If it's larger than 4GB then it won't work in the 5118.
Try using another card. Don't format it in your computer but do format it in the camera before trying to take pictures.

Have "olympus sp 800uz" and

1. Put the SD card into the computers cardreader.
2. Connect the camera through USB with the computer .
3. Copy the pictures.

If you have trouble with the SD card:
1. Copy all the pictures to the computer.
2. Format the sd card in the camera.
3. Copy the pictures back onto the sd card.

I can not get our memory card to format. it says card error. we are using a microSDHC Ccard with adapter 4gb

Is the camera compatible with SDHC? If it can only handle SD memory cards this card is not readable in the device. It will show on the camera whether it is compatible with SDHC. If it doesn't have the logo, take it as the card won't work and you'll need to get a normal SD card.

There is a theoretical maximum of 2GB for SD memory cards, SDHC start at 4GB and go up to 32GB.

Simply put, if your camera is quite old, it won't support SDHC and therefore is limited to a maximum of 2GB memory card.

Cannot get the camera to use SD card. Card inserted correctly, also it is the right size [1gig] card. Camera fails to read card, place pictures on it. Cobra DC8200 BK

It is possible that you have pictures on the camera's internal memory and as long as they're there, the camera won't use the card. You can test this by removing the card and then try to review pictures. If they show up, then the internal memory is playing. To get rid of them, with no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format" and follow the on-screen instructions. After that, your card should work properly.
