I purchased a BD-P1200 Blu-ray player at the end of the summer of 2007, but didn't buy my first Blu-ray movie (Santa Claus 3) until the end of November. Movie would not continuously play, purchased 2nd movie (Pixar Shortfilms) forget it, nothing at all. Although it plays DVDs just fine. Contacted Samsung, did firmware update and master reset, no luck. The two movies still will not play, contacted Samsung again, went through two different levels of tech support until transferred to the Executive Service Department. I was told I had to pay them $85.00us to send the unit to NJ for god knows how long for repair, for a brand new player. Please help with any suggestions to resolve the issue.
I have the Samsung BD-UP5000 and I'd say about 18 out of 20 Blu-ray discs I have tried do not work. Latest disaster is Iron Man, a rented disc would not load at all, one I bought loaded but stutters during playback so much the move is unwatchable.
I think I have the latest (1.3) I have performed the upgrade via the ethernet port and again with a CD burned from a downloaded ISO (in case the first was off somehow).
How might I verify the firmware is correct and properly installed?I think I have the latest (1.3) I have performed the upgrade via the ethernet port and again with a CD burned from a downloaded ISO (in case the first was off somehow).

Maybe your player lens can't function properly due to a long time of using. You can try playing your BD movies on a Blu-ray player software. You can try some other free players such as Leawo Blu-ray Player, VLC, Aun Player and so on.

It could be it needs new firmware.
If you have not updated firmware it would be worth doing this as there have been quite a lot of updates on most players.
Also make sure the disk is perfectly clean.

Problem solved. I decided to use the learning function of my remote to learn the wanted commands of the original remote. The remote I used was a Sony RM-VL610 which could learn the original remotes functions easy and quickly. This is a very good remote for only $30 purchased at Target. The Macro commands were also entered rather easily. I did not try this method originally, because I thought it would be too time consuming and difficult. pcwg
I had the exact same problem as you did... I bought the Sharp Aquos 42D85X which came with Sharp BD-HP21X Blu-ray Disc player. could not get brand new blu-ray movies to play and i found it froze everytime after 10 secs. I phoned sharp who basically were no help watsoever! I then went and returned my blu-ray movies back to the store thinking it was a problem with the discs.. The people there were extremely nice and since they had a display model of the BD-HP21X instore they offered to test the movie on it to veroify whether it was the blu-ray player was the problem or not. Turns out its a fault with all of the BD-HP21X models. So we then ended up returning it back to the store we bought it and exchanged it with the older model (BD-HP20X). I now have no problems playing blu-ray movies. Although another suggestion is to perhaps download the lastest firmware update & see if that resolves your issues.
I have a BD-P1000 and while playing a discit just stopped DEAD!
What can this be! It was also locking up, and would not play Blu-Ray discs? 609-296-6841 Dominick
Your firmware seems to be an older version. Since the discs that you are nameing are asking for Blu-Ray 1.2 support.
Samsung has provided updated firmware to support these discs.
Follow the instructions on the link.

Are you able to play other discs on your player?
Did you get your discs from a reputable distributor? and not at a flee market?
Could be that your discs aren't giving the proper signals.
