Trun the camera off and remove the batteries. Leave it for at least a minute before inserting the batteries. Put the car in and turn the camera on.

The firmware in these cameras can get confused. Removing the batteries for a minuite or two will allow the camera circuits to discharge and so it will reset from start when powered-up again.

If this does not work then the camera may need to be sent away for repair. This need not be expensive it could be as simple as re-programming the camera. (Their program memory is writeable and so it can be accidentally altered under certian circunstsances. It may be possible to do this yourself using the downloadable firmware upgrade, but I would let someone else try thet first!)

However, it is just possible that the new card is also faulty!

Check the cards in your PC by obtaining a SD card reader to allow you to plug it directly into your PC.

For reference I would always recommend inserting and removing memory cards with the camera turned off. I would also use the SD card reader to load the images into the PC. Unplugging devices form the USB port can be harmful to some devices. Check the bottom right of your PC screen for an 'safe unplug' icon when things are plugged in.

Took out memory card to transfer photos. returned card to camera and it indicated memory card error shut down leaving lens out.

Never remove or insert a memory card while the camera is turned on. Try removing the battery, waiting about 30 minutes, and then putting in a freshly charged battery.

My pentax K100D says there is not card in camera

What type of memory card do you have? The K100D works with SD cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

K100d wont format memory card

Make sure your new memory card is an SD card. If it's larger than 2GB then it's actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, an SDHC card will not work in devices designed only for SD cards.

I bought a 4G SD card for my K100D and it gives me a card error message, the card works fine in my wife's Canon compact.

The K100D works with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While SDHC cards fit into SD slots, they will not work in devices not designed for SDHC. Apparently your wife's Canon is newer and SDHC-compatible.
The K100D is limited to SD cards, which max out at 2GB.

What Memory Cards will work?

Hi,,

Unfortunately, the Pentax K100D is not SDHC compatible, which means that the camera can be equipped with a maximum memory capacity of 2GB.

It is also advisable to choose a fast version of the Secure Digital memory card, such as Ultra II or Extreme III by SanDisk. I would recommend using a memory card of at least 512MB, or even 1GB if you can.

Hope this info helps

SD card problem

here is a list of compatable memory cards
http://www.4allmemory.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=search.memorySearch&model_id=42425
.. any SD or MMC card should work up to 4 gb ... so your 2gb should be ok .. i suspect that it may be damaged .. you can try formatting it in a USB card reader if you have one on your computer .. some laptops have the SD slot built in .. there was some compatability issues with memory cards for older cameras but there shouldnt be any with such a new machine .. make sure the contacts are clean and the "protect" switch (if any) is in the unprotected mode .. when you format the card it may take several minutes so give it time .. if you are going to take movies then its better to use a "high speed" SD card .. like the 133x mentioned in the above URL .. slow memory may cause missed frames or 15 fps instead of 30 fps record rates.. .
the specs on your camera do show SD and MMC compatability .but they dont show any brand preference .. .

K100D flash doesn´t work

My camera with the dodgy flash is holidaying in Japan as they sent it to be fixed - not sure how old your camera is but I am trying to see if this is an issue that occurs with the camera model.... given that there are only two of us to date I am thinking that we may have just struck the jackpot :(
