Merc E280 1996 the power steering is become hard to turn and the there is red indicator sign of 'battery Charge'

The headset contains a lithium ion rechargeable battery, which should be charged before using the headset for the first time.

System requirements for battery charge using USB

Charging the headset

1. Open the cover of the micro-USB port.

Insert the tip of your fingernail in the groove, and open the cover.

1. Connect the supplied micro-USB cable to the headset, and then connect the other end to a computer.

Make sure that you connect the plug of the micro-USB cable in the direction as shown in the illustration below.
Charging starts when the headset and the computer are connected.
Make sure that the indicator (red) lights up. Charging is completed in about 6 hours* and the indicator (red) goes off automatically.
*Time required to charge the empty battery to its full capacity
Notes

• If the headset is not used for a long time, the indicator (red) may not light up when you connect the micro-USB cable to charge the headset. In this case, do not disconnect the micro-USB cable from the headset and wait until the indicator (red) lights up.

• When you close the cover of the micro-USB port after charging the battery, push the catch at the edge (the round part) of the cover into the port compartment.

Tips

• If the micro-USB cable is connected to a computer while the headset is turned on, the headset will be turned off automatically.

• To charge the headset from an AC outlet, use USB Charging AC Power Adaptor* (sold separately). For details, refer to the manuals supplied with the USB Charging AC Power Adaptor.

• The headset cannot be turned on while charging the battery.

*Refer to the Reference Guide on the recommended adapter.
Caution
If the headset detects a problem while charging, the indicator (red) may turn off, although charging is not complete.
Check for the following causes:

• Ambient temperature exceeds the range of 5 °C - 35 °C (41 °F - 95 °F).

• There is a problem with the battery.

In this case, charge again within the above-mentioned temperature range. If the problem persists, consult your nearest Sony dealer.

Notes

• If the headset is not used for a long time, the battery may be quickly depleted, however, after a few recharges, the battery life will improve.

• Even if you do not intend to use the headset for a long time, charge the battery to its full capacity once every 6 months to maintain its performance.

• If the headset is not used for a long time, it may take longer to charge the battery.

• If the life of the built-in rechargeable battery drops to half the normal length, the battery should be replaced. Consult your nearest Sony dealer for replacement of the rechargeable battery.

• Avoid exposure to temperature extremes, direct sunlight, moisture, sand, dust or mechanical shock. Never leave the headset in a car parked in the sun.

• If the computer enters into hibernation mode while connected to the headset, charging will not be completed properly. Check the setting of the computer before charging. The indicator (red) will go off automatically even if the computer enters into hibernation mode. Charge the headset again in this case.

• Use the supplied micro-USB cable only, and connect directly to a computer. Charging will not be completed properly by an indirect connection, such as via a USB hub.

Checking the remaining battery

If you press the POWER button while the headset is turned on, the indicator (red) flashes. You can check the remaining battery by the number of times the indicator (red) flashes. The indicator (red) flashes immediately after the headset is turned on to indicate the remaining battery power.

When the battery is almost empty The indicator turns red. When the battery becomes empty, the headset sounds a beep and turns off automatically.

Start the car and take the cap off of the fluid reservoir. Does it look like the fluid is moving in the reservoir or is the fluid very still? If the fluid is very still will most likely need a pump

check for alternator problem sounds like its not charging

Engine running ask someone to turn steering wheel for you . Look for power steering hose move like there is pressure. and noise from power steering pump . if not change power steering pump
You don't really need power assistance when moving on the road ... where you need it more specially in parking or not really moving

It sounds like the pump is stalling under load, most likely because the belt is old. Get it replaced, and if the power steering fluid hasn't been changed in 3 years or more, have the system flushed and filled too. Power steering oil is hygroscopic, just like brake fluid. Not to the same extent (it's not as aggressive in absorbing moisture), but over time it does take in water, which then corrodes the insides of your power steering system.

Hey, I'm an automotive technician. And if I were you, i'd take it to a GM dealer, especially if thats where you purchased it, because GM is recalling millions of Chevy steering columns. It's not your fault, or anything you've done. GM's mistake, and they'll fix it.

This vehicle has:

Variable-assist power steering: A power steering system that uses valves and speed sensors to vary the amount of steering assist according to engine or road speed. At slow speeds more steering assist is delivered and steering the wheels is easier; necessary for parking, etc.. At higher speeds, steering assist is reduced and more steering effort is required to steer the car, giving the driver greater feel of the road. Also known as Speed-sensitive power steering.

Loss of current to the magnetic coils would cause a loss of power assist at low speed. Coil resistance can be checked with an ohmmeter, and should read about two ohms. An infinite (open) reading indicates a bad coil (requires replacing the rack since the coils are not serviceable). Checking for shorts between both sides of the coil assembly and rack housing is also recommended.

Unless the drive belt to the power steering pump is slack, the pump itself is likely worn out. Fluid leaks can be at any part of the power system, but usually it occurs at points that have seals--either the pump shaft, the assist cylinder, or the control unit in the steering system. Spread some newspapers out under all components of the power system when the truck is parked. The leaks will show as red spots on the paper where they are. Replace the offending component. Hope this helps!

sounds like a bad battery - check that -even if new try a well known used battery if you need to. Also charge the battery to full charge and then try it. Many ford [ merc] will tell you do not install a battery that is not fully charged as it will cause problems with the charging system. As a last resort try a new battery with a FULL CHARGE and check the wiring for very hard places near the alternator. These can be a sign of working the assembly too hard. Consider replacing the 'hard' portions of the wires.

Take the car in for a new serpentine belt and tensioner right away before you destroy the engine. The alternator, power steering pump and waterpump are not turning right now because the belt has come off. The battery will die soon because it is not charging, and the engine will overheat and perform it's own little rendition of the china syndrome. When the red warning lights in the dash come on, it generally means; park it unless you're being shot at.
