Mitsubishi hd 1080 tv humming and blurred words/ bight colors

It sounds to me that the cathode ray tubes or the high voltage splitter is going bad. There is no lamp in this TV. it uses the older CRT type display technology. Time for a new TV.

okay, 1080 Series isnt the model... the model number is on a sticker on the back, and that's what you need to find first. Just from the description, though, sounds like your focus block is bad; that will cause the problem you are describing... not cheap, but way cheaper than a new TV.

My unit has blurred halo colors around screen items (people,cars, building, etc.) and when I turn to the HD channels this seems to dissipate a little.

most likely the convergence Ics have failed. Check F9a04 and F9A05 pico fuses if they are blown you will need to replace them and the convergence Ics.They are located on the center board they are green and look like resistors without the color band. see the photo

1080 is a High Definition setting. If your Television is HD capabilities you need to make sure that the programming that you are viewing is being broadcasted in 1080. If it is not then you will see a difference in picture quality and sound. If no color at all and program being watch is HD programming check your connections on back of Television. depending on what kind of input the Television is receiving you might need to try new cables or a new input. Your color wheel may be cracked or broken.

You need service. Sounds like the convergence is out of adjustment. As the picture is formed by a tri- gun arrangement (one for each colour), if any of them is not correctly aligned, you will see shadows on any sharp line like text, or blurring on a picture. The shadow or blurring will often be one colour i e. red, blue or green.

check to make sure that you have all the cables plugged in for that model you need a total of 5 cables for the HD input. 3 component(red,green,blue) and 2 audio(red,white)

check and re-solder the connections on the 2 convergence ICs in the middle power board. they are going to be attaches to the biggest heat-sink in the tv. if the re-soldering doesn't fix then replace with STK392-570 i would replace both but if you look at the board you should be able to figure out which chip is responsible for the vertical and which is the horizontal convergence. each IC converges all 3 colors but one is responsible for one axis.
