Sounds like some kind of bad wire, you hope. It could be a power issue as you have stated, I would try it out on several diffrent computers, and you were not wrong in trying the y cable. But if that still doesnt work then not all is lost. I would recomend opening up the caseing and removing the hard drive. Even external drives simply use standard laptop SATA drives. If you have a desktop you can simply plug in the drive while your computer is off, if you do not have xtra spots to plug it up you could temp unpulg your dvd drive to test it. Proto 1000 and 2000 trains used defective gears between the axles. I just replaced a bunch of them on mine. Find some Athearn SD 40 gears, which are exactly the same, to use as replacements (I got mine from a seller on Amazon for cheap). Get a small screw driver and pry off the bottom of the truck (it will be a long narrow black plastic piece). Pull out the wheelsets and you will most likely see small crack in the gear. Pull the wheels out and discard the gear. Take the new gear and insert the wheels (they go in really hard, so you have to use some force -- I used two pairs of channel lock pliers to get this done). Use a wheel gauge to get your wheels right and then put them back in (you have to line up the little square nuts so they drop in right). Replace the plastic clip on the truck and you are ready to go. This should eliminate your problems.

I'm not familiar with the Dash 9-44 CW but it may be that the sound and smoke switches are turned off. You will probably find these under a removable cover on top of the locomotive or under it, usually near the cab. Check your instructions or go to Lionel.com and click on support. I've heard that the issue can be resolved with a firmware update.

HTML clipboard Olympus AS-2000 is not Vista compatible, you need to upgrade your software, I am not sure which version you have, but I think its version 6 ? You need to upgrade your software from version 6 to 7 (free) and then from version 7 to Standard (also free ) . check your foot pedal if it's RS-23 ( check the back of it ) then you need a new foot pedal ( RS-25 or RS-27 ) , if you have the RS-25 or RS27 you are ok .

Don't know but I've a pair of Proto-J's for 5+ yrs as my main spkrs and they are the best I've ever had / heard (for anywhere near the $200/pr. price I paid) - you won't be sorry - I'm sure the pluses are great - But I know the Proto-J's are killer....the dave
