To restore from an iTunes backup: Connect iPad to the computer you normally sync with, select iPad in the iTunes window, and click Restore in the Summary pane.

When the iPad software is restored, you can either set it up as a new iPad, or restore your music, videos, app data, and other content from a backup.

Unfortunately, you're a bit stuck. The only way of removing a passcode without knowing it is to restore from an iPad backup when the passcode wasn't applied.
My advice would be to take it to an Apple Store, and explain the situation. They're always very helpful, and may be able to do something about it.
