Installed a second 256 mb memory card and it won't recognize it. System is still operating on only 256mb of ram instead of 512.

Are the DIMMS identical?
If they are not or one is faulty, it will not recognise the both of them.
Does it work with each RAM either way round?
The must be of the same manufacture and speed.
Hope that helps.

I have the Gateway 510G. It will no longer boot. When I press the "On" button, both lights (power and system) light up for about 5-10 seconds and unit then turns off. I've cleaned the inside with air. ...

Try opening the case and "reseating" the RAM (memory). Remove all memory and try to boot. If that works, shut down and add a RAM chip into RAM Slot 1 and try to boot. If that works, add another chip, and so on. It is not impossible for 1 RAM chip to be fried. Also, if you have more than one hard drive hooked up to the PC, try booting with only the boot drive (OS drive). If that works, maybe a slave drive is fried. Good luck.

Add more ram

hi-
To add ram - look on the back of the lap top. You will see some screws that are holding down a little door. There may be two of these. Remove the screws on the ram cover and remove ram cover

1- press the buttons on the sides of the ram chip, and then it will pop up and towards you.
2- 2- pull this ram upwards and out
3- from there, you can take out the other chip, if there is one, or you can start installing.
4- installing the new ram chips is just as easy
5- line up the slots in the chip, then push it in as far as you can without breaking it.
6- then push it down so that you hear it click on both sides, and doesn't budge.
7- Repeat using the top chip.
This should do it –
I hope it helps- please rate me – thanks

How to add ram if theres only one slot?

Hello

If you need to add ram but there is only one ram slot, you need to replace the current ram chip with another chip with better specs. Thus ,if you have a 512mb chip in now, you need to replace it with a 1gb chip. Hope this can help you.

Kind regards

How do I add more RAM memory

It is easy to add more RAM to the laptop, the first thing you need to know is the type of memory you model uses. Your model uses DDR2@533MHz up to 2 GB RAM (2 chips 1 GB each).
PLACE THE LAPTOP UPSIDE DOWN ON A SOFT CLOTH. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T MISPLACE THE SCREWS.
1. Remove the larger cover in the back of the laptop (2 screws) ; the memory chips are under this cover.
2. Replace the chip(s) with larger capacity chip(s).
3. Put the cover back (using the 2 screws you safely removed in step 1). Thats it!

if u have 2 chips of 256mb each then u need to buy 512mb X 2 chips and ur old ram will be left with u , luckily if u have 1 chip of 512 mb in ur system then u will save money like only buy 1 chip of 512mb but pls check the whole ratings of ur RAM and make of RAM is it samsung or hynix chips or what bcoz u will have compatibility issue in matching ur old and new rams pls let me know of whole specs written on RAM i can help u in matching

if u need urgent boost in performance then i will suggest replacing hard disk u will see a big change in loading OS and opening programs RAM is secondary in this stuff , but it is imp u can also go for 756 mb in total if u dont want to waste money if u have 2 chips of 256 each

secondly go for 160/250 GB 7200 RPM drive for top performance but 5400 RPM is still fast in ur notebook it is like 4200rpm according too my expertise

Which memory ram for amilo pro v7010

http://www.fujitsu-siemens.ru/Resources/123/2080773523.pdf

Here's a link to the Data Sheet with the specifications to that Laptop in Adobe Reader format.

Looks like your Laptop came with either 256 or 512 MB of DDR SDRAM and it is upgradable to 2 GB of DDR SDRAM.

You can check to see exactly how much RAM your computer came with by going to Control Panel, double-click System and it should tell you how much RAM you currently have in the System Properties box.

The motherboard has 2 slots for RAM, you you could add a second 256 MB or a second 512 MB stick of RAM. Or if you wanted to upgrade to the 2GB of maximum RAM this computer handles, then you can take out the RAM chip(s) that is installed and install two 1G DDR SDRAM.

Adding Parts From One Laptop TO Another

Ram is very easy to change of a laptop. It reguires removing the bottom plate with the little chip sign around it. Sometimes the second ram stick is hidden under the keyboard. If so remove the keyboard to get the second stick. Many parts however cannot be changed from one laptop to another. Sorry. Check the ram also make sure it is the same version DDR

RAM chip sets

It is OK to mix chip (SODIMM) capacities in the 2 slots in your notebook.

The best system performance will be when you have 2 x 512MB but for now if you install 1 x 512MB, you could even leave the old chip in the other slot, it'll be fine.
