I have a new computer with microsoft vista and it will not let me install driver for my x5100 series printer how do I obtain a driver the microsoft website does not show that series number

Use the Lexmark Z600 Series Vista driver in Windows 7. First, check if your Windows 7 is running on 32-bit or 64-bit operating system. From your computer, go to Start menu > Programs > right-click on Computer > click on Properties. Take note of the System Type.

Simply follow the instructions on your computer screen to complete the installation.

I recommend you use the Lexmark X5150 driver from the Lexmark website. But first, make sure there are no existing Lexmark X5150 driver on your computer. Go to the Start menu -> Programs -> Lexmark X5100 Series -> Tools -> Uninstall. Reboot pc when prompted.
To reinstall, click on this link Lexmark X5150 Drivers.
Select your operating system by clicking on
Then click on FILTER.


Click on the Complete Driver under Recommended Downloads. Download, execute the file and follow the instructions on the software. NOTE: Use Vista driver in Windows 7.

You may want to see if the Printer is actually compatible with Windows Vista first before you try anything else.

If your Printer is Listed Below, then unfortunately it will not run on your system unless you format the machine and downgrade to Windows XP. (Or obviously you can wait until the device is supported, but to be honest that could be months, years).

I dont know the exact tip for this one. but you can try the following steps to solve this problem.

Download the Windows Vista printer driver for the SCX-4216F multifunction printer from www.samsung.com.

1. Install the driver on your Windows Vista computer. During installation, you’ll be prompted to connect the printer to your computer. Choose the option to proceed with installation without connecting the printer.
2. After installation completes, open the Printers applet from the Windows Vista Control Panel.
3. Right-click on the new Samsung SCX-4100 Series printer and choose Properties.
4. Go to the Ports tab.
5. Click Add Port…, select Local Port, then click New Port…
6. For the port name, enter exactly the network path and share name of your printer (e.g. \\RECEPTION\Samsung SCX-4×16 Series).
7. Click OK, and double-check that this new port is selected with the checkbox next to it.
8. Click OK to close the printer properties.

Go to Lexmark support website and select download software. Search for your printer model and download the software needed to work with Vista.

I have heard that since this printer is old and discontinued that it is
not compatible with Vista. You can try to partition drive and install
Win2000 or WinXP and it will work.

Test the printer with a computer with Windows XP or Windows 2000 installed. Also, a lot of S/W will only work for XP.

Lexmark z500-600 series printers should work with Vista, but I haven't tracked down the drivers for the z600. The z605 appears to be the earliest z series still supported for s/w & driver downloads at Lexmark site.
This cheap printer is a life support system for ink sales, so unless you know your carts are full and working, I wouldn't bother installing this printer in most cases :)
