AUTO FLASH:
Automatically fires in low-light and backlight conditions.
RED EYE REDUCTION FLASH:
This mode significantly reduces the phenomenon of “red-eye” by emitting about 10 preflashes before firing the regular flash. This mode works the same as the auto-flash except for the pre-flashes.
To change between flash modes:
1 Press the (flash) switch. ● The flash pops up. 2 Press the / (flash mode) button repeatedly until the desired flash mode indication appears. ● The flash mode changes , ● If / is not pressed within 2 seconds after the selection screen is displayed, the selection screen disappears. ● To de-activate the flash (Flash Off mode ), push the flash back into the camera. 3 Press the shutter button halfway. ● When the flash is ready to fire, the (flash stand-by) mark lights. 4 Press the shutter button all the way. ● The flash fires.

Red eye reduction doesn't work that well on cameras. You would be better off importing your photos into a program like Picasa and fixing the red eyes there. Picasa's red eye removal is one of the best out there and very simple to use.
What you could also try is diffusing the flash somewhat. Put a piece of tissue paper over your flash is one way to do it. Or try bouncing the light from the flash off the ceiling with a piece of card (I've even used a piece of torn paper plate to do this)
The pre=flashes are for reduction of red eye and also for TTL indormation for camera to wotk properly with flash. Read Flash manual and some info in camera manual
I don't know whether this camera has red-eye reduction. It is likely to be found in the setup for the flash, or as a toggle for the flash setting. On some cameras, you toggle through the available flash settings until the icon (usually a lightening bolt) has an eye next to it.
Red eye reduction is not perfect even if the camera offers it. You get a much better solution by using a photo editing program in the computer to remove red eye from your shots. Many such programs have a function just for this that works almost automatically. You may have gotten a photo editing program with the camera, but there are many others downloadable for free on the net, try www.download.com.
1. Touch the flash function area (lightning bolt with downward-pointing arrow) until the flash icon with the "A" shows up on the left side of the display. This activates the automatic flash.
2. Touch the flash function area again until the flash icon shows up. This activates manual flash.
3. Touch the flash function area again the eyeball icon shows up on the left. This activates the red-eye reduction mode feature.
4. To turn off the flash, touch the flash function area repeatedly until the flash icon insie a circle shows up.

Red eye happens because the flash is close to the lens. Even with the red eye reduction function, you're still going to get some. You can either use off-camera flash, or correct it in software.
There's two ways to reduce/eliminate the red-eye with your A570IS cameras. The first is at the time of exposure, by ensuring the red-eye reduction function is activated via the shooting menu (see page 28 of the manual). In shooting mode, press "menu", highlight the "tools" icon, and go down to "red-eye on/off". Toggle over to "on". That should take care of red-eye, in some, but not all cases. You can also remove red-eye after the image has been recorded (page 69 of the manual). You can isolate the red eyes if the camera doesn't automatically them for you. This should give you two shots at eliminating red-eyes. Another, often overlooked way to reduce red-eye is to zoom out and move physically closer to the subject, rather than relying on the zoom lens to get you close when shooting with flash. If the red-eye reduction is turned on, and you can verify that the pre-flash is functioning, you may need to think about shooting technique. With ultra-compact cameras, the flash is necessarily placed close to the lens. This is the worst design possible to avoid red-eye. To reduce red-eye as much as possible, ensure the red-eye reduction system is turned on (and functioning properly), and get close to the subject. I mean "physically" close, not just close by zooming. Use as little zoom as possible. If the subject is small, move closer, without relying on the zoom lens to make the subject appear closer.
There are 5 flash modes: Auto-flash, Manual fill-flash, Auto-flash with red-eye reduction, Manual fill-flash with re-eye reduction, and Flash cancel. In Macro mode, the built-in flash is automatically disabled.
