My Proform ZT5 treadmill starts to incline as soon as I turn it on, It goes all the way up, then all the way down...the only way to stop it is by pulling safety or turning off. Also the console isn't

1) change the batteries by news one
2) clean the contacts batteries very well
3) tight the ribbon cables from keypads from display board.
4) tight the wires connector from display board vs lower board
5) Adjust the reed switch see the diagram, clean it and tight the wire connector well.
6) After you fix it RUN the software calibration for diagnose , troubleshooting and fix it.

Dear Sir:
If it sounds like metal rotating on metal then it could be roller bearings or motor bearings. Most of the time the bearings will have to be pressed out and the new ones pressed in. May be you must go the treadmill to workshop. sincerely. God bless you.

I have a Proform ZT5 model - had the same incline/decline problem. It needed calibrated.
- unplug, turn off, and take the key out
- plug machine in
- turn switch on
- Pres and hold the STOP and SPEED UP button at the same time, while holding them insert the RED KEY
- let go of both buttons
- press STOP 1 time
- pres INCLINE UP 1 time
- this should reset it.

The tech on the phone mentioned the importance of turning the maching off, taking the key out, and unplugging after each use. Leaving it plugged in there is still an electrical current running and this can cause more seriouc problems that require a new control panel.

ICON CALIBRATION INSTRUCTIONS- INCLINE
1) Press the Stop and the Speed Up keys down while inserting the safety key. If this doesn’t work, click on the help topic entitled “Alternate Calibration Codes” for key sequence instructions to enter calibration.
2) Press the Stop key one time. The Time window should read EP:2P. Some newer models may also say FP, Pass, or the like. This means that it passes the EPROM test.
3) Press either incline key and the incline will calibrate automatically.
4) THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT STEP BECAUSE YOU WILL GET AN ERROR MESSAGE IF THIS STEP IS SKIPPED.After completing calibration of incline, press the Stop key and then remove the safety key.

This condition is when the treadmill goes to full speed as soon as you power up the treadmill. Typically when this occurs, it is an indication of a short circuit in the motor controller.

Press the Stop and the Speed Up keys down while inserting the safety key.

Press either incline key and the incline will calibrate automatically.
After completing calibration of incline, press the Stop key and then remove the safety key.

If what you say is that all functions are working (start, speed up , down and incline up,down) then the upper console lighting may have loose wire harness( check first) bad soldier connection or the components that generate the images on the LCD are defective. If you have good connections on the wire harness then you may need to replace the upper console.

It is trying to its starting point I would suggest is to unplug the unit open the motor shroud unit. The shroud it has a mini manual this should have a calibration instructions that can be done and also upper electronics self test to see if the processor is functioning properly. You may need to calibrate the incline. Do this with the following procedure.
Safety key out
press the stop and speed up buttons at the same time while inserting the safety key. (you are now in diagnostics)
press the stop button one time only.
now press the incline up button (incline motor should start moving up)
incline will go up to the top and then all the way to the bottom. when it gets done you can remove the key. Reinsert the key and you should be operating normally.
