4. Select "Stereo Mix" as the device under "Recording" menu and then select the recording quality according to your demands.

I found the problem. I went to Windows Sound Recorder, and then in the EDIT screen, I opened the AUDIO PROPERTIES and muted the STEREO MIX channel and the problem was solved. For some reason, all my audio stuff is somehow tied to the Windows Sound Recorder.
