We have found this error is not related to the cartridge area. We found that the exit flag spring in the back of the fuser is wound to loosely. Carefully take the spring while it's in place in turn it one full turn tighter. You will need a hook for this procedure or a bent paperclip. Resecure the end of the spring and bend the tip so it does not unwind. For good measure place a small amount of glue on the end of the spring. Our customer has about 100 of these machines in 10 of those were giving the jam and cartridge area message. After performing this procedure on all 10 we never had another issue with the machine

How do I clear paper jam

The flashing error code that indicates a jammed printer is the digital-age equivalent of a flat tire. Sooner or later it happens to everyone, so you'd better know how to get things moving again if you want to finish your print job.

1.Turn the printer off and on to see if it can automatically clear some or all of the jam. Many printers provide an error-code listing on the front panel display for the area where the jam occurred. If your printer shows an error code, be sure and check the printer manual to see if that identifies the area of the printer where the jam occurred.

2.Turn off the printer.

3.Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.

4.Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.

5.If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it in a bag or away from light to avoid damaging it.

6.If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly (see A). The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.

7.If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper (see B). Don't force anything, though.

8.Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.

9.If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.

I've got a 4 by 6 photo paper jam in my Lexmark S405 all-in-one printer.

Please follow the steps below to fix the problem:

1. Remove the sheets of paper from the feeder.

2. Try to reach for the paper jam.

3. If paper jam can't be reached, open the printer cover to access the cartridge area. You may be able to get a better hold of the paper jam in the cartridge area.

4. Remove the paper jam and make sure not to tear or leave any torn piece of paper in the printer.

When paper jam is clear, try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

If problem continues, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

The Lexmark x342n all in one printer gives the error code 200.20 i took out the paper jam and tried to print again but it still gives the same fault i also can the drum and tried again but it only...

General tip: If the paper tears when you pull a jam out of the printer, spread the paper out and make sure you have all of the pieces. A small shred left inside can cause another jam.

"I also can the drum" - does this mean you discarded the printer cartridge? I've never seen a cartridge cause a jam. Usually an accordion-fold jam in this area is the result of the fuser rollers not turning or a torn fuser sleeve. A jam without an accordion fold indicates that the paper did not make it into the toner deposition area soon enough - this could be a problem with the pickup roller or the next set of rollers. Worn or dirty rollers can work intermittently before they quit completely.

Also, check the paper detection flag to make sure it isn't hanging up (this is a black plastic tab that sticks into the paper path just before the paper goes under the cartridge, and is pushed up or down by the paper). Look for the U-shaped optical detector that is interrupted by this flag, and make sure it isn't blocked by foreign material.
