I bought a Danco 3H-10 H/C replacement cartridge to replace my original cold water cartridge. When installed, the water turns on when I push the handle to the off position. The water shuts off in the on position. Seems like it was set-up for HOT. Is there a way I can modify the cartridge so that it is suppose to operate for the COLD side correctly?

Thae stem you got that said hot/cold were designed to fit old style cross handle faucets. So both hot and cold turned the same way. If the cold side you are replacing turns the opposite direction then you will need to get a cold stem. Danco does make them. Ask the retailer where you purchased the H/C stem. I hope this helps..

One of two things has happened. I'm assuming you only get hot water when you open the valve and that this is for a single handle control shower fixture. If so either this is the wrong valve for your shower control or it is installed backwards. Sometimes the valve can be installed at either 180 degree angles. See if it can be installed any other way. If so this may solve the problem.

Leaks are where the joints are not sealing and water escapes. When putting joints back together without adding a sealant or teflon (PTFE) tape, they will sometimes leak. Take the joints apart again and use a small amount of a paste designed to seal joints, spread on the threads of the joints. Tighten them firmly once and let the compound set for 10 minutes before turning on the water.

I bought a 3h-10h/c but it only works for hot. do you have the same product for the cold side?

The same part works for both Hot & Cold sides. Usually preset to work on Hot (counter clockwise on, clockwise off). To set for Cold, simple remove the plastic clip from the top, slide the ring tab off, flip it over and put back on (you can only put it on one way since there's a flat "key" in it matching the stem) Now its set for Cold (CCW of, CW on). I'm not aware of any problems with non moen replacement parts being the cause for a water hammer problem. Start with the simplest and cheapest correction which is using a moen replacement cartridge. If the water hammer persists then you may have to install a water hammer arrester in the plumbing system. This is basically a shock absorber in the plumbing system to stop the effect of water hammer. An arrester will cost you around $10 to $15 at your local plumbing supply shop. If you are not comfortable soldering copper then you will want to hire a licensed plumber to complete the work for you.

I had the same type of problem with an older toilet in my house. It developed a water hammer when it shut off after filling the tank. I replaced the fill valve with a generic universal replacement for about $10 and it stopped. Again sometimes the simplest fix will work. Let me know how it works out.
