When i turn playstation on its shuts back down and red light flashes

At first it came on for about 5 mins now it doesnt come on at all it just shuts down straight away and red light flashes

You have what's known as the Red light of death (RLOD), your PS3 will need to be opened to fix this error, now you will have two options to fix this problem.
Option 1 Send the console to Sony for $150 they will fix the problem or replace your PS3, be warned, it will take 4-6 weeks and you will lose all your Data.
Option 2 Fix the Problem at home with a Professional PS3 repair guide, they cost no more than $40 and you can fix the problem within an hour or so also you will not lose any data.

Do either of these steps and you will get your PS3 back

Does the red light turn yellow at anytime soon?
If so it's a classical case of YLOD (Yellow Light of Death, you can find it all over the internet).

Best thing you can do is contact your Sony PlayStation support department for your country.
The number should be listed in the manuals that came with the unit.

Game plays for 20 min to 45 min then just turns off. The console just flashes the red light in front and when you turn it back on it tells you that it was shut down wrong. Why is it doing that?

do you get a yellow light? i bet you do..

1)Turn off your playstation 3. If you think your ps3 has been caught by the heat, then wait at least 20 minutes and put it back on again
2) Check if there's any loose cable.
3) Try to put out your playstation's hard-drive, and put it back in. You might want to repeat this 2-3 times for better results.

If this did not work
Send your playstation back to Sony

Playstation light flashing red and playstation not working
Most of the times, you're going to find that this is due to over heating. If you've been playing for a while, shut down your Playstation, and let it sit for about 1 hour. It's best if the room is cooled off as well.If the room is hot, you may want to put a fan blowing toward it, or turn up your Air Conditioning.Check the back of your unit, and make sure that all of the cables are plugged in. What you're going to want to do is take out each one, and blow the inside of the ports with compressed air.
To play it safe, take out the Playstation's hard drive, and place it back in.Once the 1 hour is up, and the Playstation hasn't been running, turn it back on, and see if everything is working. If it is, you're good to go! If it isn't, you may want to consult with Sony.

I turn on my ps3 and the green light comes on for a short time and the it beeps three times shuts off and the green light turns red and starts to flash. If I push the power button again the red light stops...
this happens when the ps3 has overheated-try removing the hard drive and replacing then give the console a hoover out.....if this doesnt work try holding the power button on for 5 sec....if this doesnt work its back to sony im affraid

PS3 shuts down after one second
hi , i hate to say this but you need to do this asap. Call the playstation support line and send it in. your ps3 is experience a corrupted hard drive. This will only get worse and will eventually shut down for good.

Go to you www.youtube.com and you may be able to find helpful videos on this. But if you bought it new it is under warranty and they will fix it. You just pay for shipping.
