My Breville coffee maker leaks water from underneath. What would cause this?

Leaks profusely from somewhere underneath and would like to know if this is a common problem and if it can be fixed.

  • Anonymous Apr 17, 2013

Can someone help us, we have a Breville coffee machine that leaks terribly from the water tank but its not actaully coming from the tank itself. I beleive the problem is beloow where it connects into the machine. Is it possible an O ring is missing or worn.... & how can we fix it. . It has been descaled regularly & the below tray is always emptied :)

Hello,
There could be a couple reasons why your coffee machine leaks from underneath. To diagnose this issue properly you would need to think about how the unit performed before it started leaking from underneath. Was there not water coming out of the nozzle or spout head which is the part the coffee comes out of before this happend? If there was no flow through the nozzle head this is most of the time due to the fineness level that people grind there coffee at. I see this issue happen very often in both coffee makers and espresso machines as well. Everyone loves a good cup of strong coffee. Some do actually believe and yes I have had it proved to myself as well that when you grind the bean to the finest level that you can or close to it the coffee is made with a bolder or stronger or more aromatic taste and flavor. What many do not realize is coffee also is made up of oils. When the coffee is ground to a fine level the at first everything flows well through the water flow path of the machine and out the nozzle head. No one realizes though the small deposits of oil from the grind being so fine that are left in the flow path due to this grind level. As the machine is used more frequently over some time the oil starts to collect grind particules in the flow path towards the nozzle head until eventually it clogs and blocks the nozzle head where not even water will come out of the nozzle. The way to alleviate this from happening is not only to turn down the grind setting but also if you do descale your machine use a pin or sewing needle on the nozzle head spout hole to clean the head from the build up on the inside of the head. If you were not to clean the head over a period of time eventually it would block coffee or espresso from coming out of your machine totally. When it does this the water pump is still trying to push the water through the path and due to the blockage it cannont so in turn the pump builds up pressure and you eventually either end up with a leaky or bad pump due to this. When you do use this pin method to clean the nozzle head it may take more then one time to clean the head depending on how much use before the last time you or someone performed this. If you have any further questions message me back. Thank you again I await your reply
Rick

When I turn on the steamer water leaks from somewhere inside the unit. cva 615

The most likely cause is a cracked steam heater - if it only leaks when using the steam function - the 615 has one pump - for coffee, Hot water and steam - so that is all good, but has two heaters - one for coffee and hot water - the other for steam. It could be a faulty valve or fitting but in my experience the heater is the first to go

Water leaking

The hose going from the tank to the spout may have a split or not be seated correctly. Check that.

It leaks from the bottom of the coffee maker

The heating element in these is underneath the hot plate. The water gets to the heater through two short pieces of hose, and sometimes this hose leaks. Sometimes the connection between the hose and the heater leaks also.
If you are so inclined, you can take off the bottom plate and replace the hose pieces, or try to tighten the connections to the heater.

Water leaks out from underneath coffee maker

Well they don;t give these away for sure. Lets see if we can help you out. ? are you over filling it.This happened to me because I was reading the fill line wrong. {got new glasses} . If not may be you could try makeing less. But if only 1/2 cup comes out and no more, that wouldent indacate a leak in the tank, if there was it would all leak. Try backing off on the coffie and water, and see if it still leaks. if it does get back to me. DFD

Water leaking from underneath water tank.

I rang Saeco service centre about my leaking water tank and they posted me a new tank - no questions or need to return the faulty item. I believe there may be a bad batch of tanks which leak because of faulty valves.

Bunn coffee maker leaks water

There are 3 seals in your unit that could cause your problem. there is a silicon seal right under the pour-in tray, and two on the top of the tank. one of those is for the thermostat, the other is for the sprayhead tube. any of these could leak, causing water to come out the bottom of the brewer. One other thing that can cause this is a scale buildup between the pour-in tray and the tank.

Leaks at bottom

look for leaks up at the top by the top hinge.

mine leaks there. apparently a gasket is missing or just not tight enough.

you should see bubbles come out and see water go into the filter cone but some of it leaks down the inside (near the pot inside) and out the bottom of the maker and appears to be leakng from the bottorm.
