SOURCE: How To Set Up PPPoE DSL Connections with a WRT55AG Router

STEP 1: Before You Begin In order to set up your Linksys Router, be sure to first have the following: 1. A Linksys Router. 2. A DSL modem. 3. A working computer that can be wired in directly to the router for initial configuration and testing. 4. Two (2) standard Ethernet network cables. Linksys Routers come with one (1) standard network cable that you can use. 5. The PPPoE DSL username and password assigned by your Internet Service Provider. Depending on the provider, your username format might be similar to username, vzn123456, or an e-mail address ([email protected]). If you are not sure what your username and password are, contact your Internet Service Provider for more information. STEP 2: Check Your Internet Connection Before installing your Linksys Router, it is important to first verify that you can successfully access the Internet by connecting directly to your modem (without your Linksys Router installed). 1. If you are connecting for the first time, follow the instructions provided by your provider to set up your modem and computer for online access. 2. Verify that you are able to access the Internet without any problems. If you are not able to get a connection, contact your Internet Service Provider for assistance. When you are able to access the Internet using your modem, continue to Step 3 and proceed with the installation of your Linksys Router. STEP 3: Connect the Hardware Follow these steps to connect your Linksys Router to your modem and computer. 1. Shut down your computer and unplug the power cords connected to your modem and Linksys Router if they are currently powered on. 2. Disconnect the network cable that connects to the back of your computer. 3. Connect the network cable that you just removed to the Internet port (or WAN port) located on the back of your Linksys Router. Your modem should now be connected to your Linksys Router. 4. Connect a second network cable back into your computer (into the same port that was disconnected in #2). 5. Connect the other end of the second network cable to one of the numbered ports located on the back of your Linksys Router (labeled 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.). Your computer should now be connected to your Linksys Router. The following diagram shows how your network should be connected. Verify that your connections are correct, and continue to the next step. 6. Plug the included power adapter into the router?s Power port. Then, plug the other end of the power adapter into a nearby electrical outlet to supply power to your router. 7. Turn on your computer. Do not turn on your modem at this time. Only your router and computer should be turned on for Step 4. STEP 4: Configure the Router Follow these steps to configure your Linksys Router. 1. On the computer that is connected to the Linksys Router, open a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape. 2. Type http://192.168.1.1 into your browser?s Address or Location bar and click Go or press the [Enter] key on your keyboard. The IP address 192.168.1.1 is the default IP address of Linksys Routers. 3. A user name and password prompt will appear. Leave the user name field blank (empty), and type in admin (lowercase) for the password. The password admin is the default password of Linksys Routers. NOTE: The following username/password prompt screen will vary by operating system. 4. Once logged in, the router?s web-based Setup utility should load. In the section labeled Internet Connection Type, or WAN Connection Type depending on router model and firmware version, select the PPPoE option on the drop down list. Click here to view what an older Linksys router interface looks like. 5. Once PPPoE is selected, enter your PPPoE DSL username and password provided by your Internet Service Provider into the router?s User Name and Password fields. Depending on the provider, your username format might be similar to username, vzn123456, or an e-mail address ([email protected]). If you are not sure what your username and password are, contact your Internet Service Provider for more information. NOTE: Be sure to clear the ?Password? field before entering your account password. AOL USERS: Enter in your PPPoE username as [email protected]. 6. If the Keep Alive option is not selected, be sure to select it instead of the ?Connect on Demand? option. The ?Keep Alive? option will ensure that your connection stays connected even when it is not in use. 7. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the Save Settings, or Apply button depending on router model, to save your changes. OR 8. Once your changes are saved, you will be presented with a button to return or you will be returned to the previous page automatically. If prompted, press Continue to return to the router?s Setup page. 9. Close and exit the web browser. STEP 5: Power Cycle Follow these steps to power on and off your devices in the correct o

SOURCE: Use 2700 as router only?

there's a way to make the gateway act as a router only but it's not really recommended since there's a possibility that the connection will not be as stable as it should.
anyways you can try the following steps in making your gateway act as a router (not really a router but just a switch and a wireless access point).
- access the router's web user interface by typing http://192.168.0.1 on your web browser
- then click on the "Advanced Configuration Settings"
- select the "Transparent Bridging" option (note: you must configure your wireless settings first before trying these steps since you might not be able to access the gateway's page anymore once you save the changes)
- set the vpi to 0 and vci to 32 if it asked you for those settings. next to 'ATM PVC Search' select the radio button next to Disable. ensure Bridged LLC is selected next to 'ATM Encapsulation'.
- then save the settings
- connect now the new modem to one of the ethernet ports of the 2700hg-d using an rj-45 or an ethernet cable

hope this'll help you.

SOURCE: 2WIRE 2701 router

You must log on to the browser interface of the router (usually for 2wire they use 192.168.1.254) run the set up wizard it will come to a screen which asks for a key code, this key code is provided by your ISP, you can try one of these and see if it works
if you have a PPPOE connection (you have a user name and password to log on to the internet with use this one.

5225-26Q4-2262-22AS-B28F

if it is not PPPOE use this

5225-26P4-6262-22AS-B2E7

to manually configure the router use this

5225-2374-WG62-22AS-BJ7P

If these do not work call your internet provider and ask them for the key code.

after that you should be all set.

Internet signal keeps dropping

There's a lot of possiblities here.If you have a DSL/dialtone lineshare, listen for noise on the line(humming, crackling static, dropped calls). If you have a dry loop(DSL only),connect a phone in place of the modem and see if it has an "intercept" message(like "you have tried to call a number out of your service area" or something like that). If it does, you can use a phone to check the line when the DSL drops(don'touforget to put an inline filter on it).If the DSL light doesn't go out when the Internet light does,it is NOT a problem with the physical line. This would be an issue with the modem or the equipment at the serving end.( I am a DSL tech, and spend lots of wasted time diagnosing and trying to fix problems that are beyond my reach(central office server issue) or that I didn't need a dispatch for(it is cheaper to send a new modem than to send a tech).

Trying to access DSL with HP modem

If you mean you're trying to use DSL service with the modem that came built into an HP computer, you can't. That modem is for dial-up Internet service only, or if you want to use your computer as a fax machine along with a scanner or all-in-one printer.

To connect to DSL, you'll need a DSL modem. If you're just getting service, your service provider should have supplied one. (Actually, I think you have the option now of ordering DSL service and not getting a modem if you already have one. Maybe you did this.) The DSL modem has a telephone-type jack to connect to the phone line (same as on the HP modem), but the connection to your computer is through a different, larger, jack usually labeled "Ethernet" or "Computer". If you don't have a modem, you can easily find them for sale. You can buy new ones at retailers who sell computers, and many used ones are available on eBay or on your local Craig's list.

Another possibility is that you already have a DSL modem and are asking how to connect an addtional computer. If this is so, you don't connect the new computer to the DSL phone line. Instead, you need to share the network connection coming from the modem. This is done using a router, which allows several computers to use the same connection either through a cable or wirelessly. The DSL modems typically supplied now have the router built in, with 4 connections for wired computers and wireless capability as well. If your modem is an older one intended for a single connection only, it will have just one network connection. If this is the case for you, you'll need to supply your own router.

Modum

You do not have to use the cd.
Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed.
then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

How can I make a password for my D-Link 520T Router?

If you wanna go wireless and your router is not wireless, you can simply buy a wireless access point. Connect it to your router and it will give you wireless service, hence your laptop can connect wirelessly now. You can just buy a D-link wireless access point.

Cnnecting to cable modum

To access your router you should goto http://192.168.0.1 - It should explain in the manual.

You may have to set the router in Cable Modem mode as it may be in DSL mode now.

I hope this may help.

ALSO! There should be a little hole in the back that you can put the tip of a pen into to press a button and it will reset the router back to factor defaults. Default settings would be cable modem mode. Be sure to have the router powered on and press the button down for 10 secs and notice the lights on the router should flash. After that power down the router, by unplugging the power and the plug it back in. It should be set back to factory defaults.

Loose connection

  1. Update the Firmware on your router.
  2. When you lose internet, look on your modem and make sure that no lights have gone out. (i.e. Cable) If this one goes out, it is your provider.

Loosing DSL connection

Call the DSL service provider and tell them to fix the problem because it is obviously a problem on their end. Besides, why would you pay so much a month for that service, if you cant use it all of the time?
