Our dishwasher is only 20 months old. The rinse aid dispenser would dispense properly until recently. I filled it over two months ago and it still reads "full" and the dishes are NOT getting clean. I cannot find anything in our Owners Manual trouble-shooting section. The fill "plug" works OK - goes from "locked" to "open" just fine. Inside that, there is another "dial" with an arrow and dotted openings. This will turn somewhat - it also turns from "open" to "locked" as well. Is this supposed to do that? Does this inner mechanism operate the amount of rinse aid dispensed? If so, what position should it be in? Or am I barking up the wrong tree and I need a new dispenser?
Check the rinse aid indicator beside the rinse aid dispenser cap. If the indicator window is clear, refill the dispenser. The dishwasher will retain moisture and the heat dry option will not perform properly without rinse aid. Turn the dispenser cap clockwise and lift it up to remove it. Pour rinse aid into the dispenser until the indicator appears full. Place the dispenser cap over the dispenser and turn it counterclockwise to tighten it.
Load the dishes properly so that all dishes can drain after the rinse cycle. Do not overload the dishwasher. Towel-dry plastic dishes because they will not dry completely during the dry cycle.
Select the heated dry option on the dishwasher. The air-dry and energy-saving dry options will not perform as well as the heated dry.

I have a white powder all over my dishes now, and I know I have hard water. The rinse aid was what made them come out clean, before, and it's no longer being used up...
Same problem here. The dishwasher is a year old and stopped dispensing rinse aid about two months ago.
Thhe rinse aid dispenser hasn't budged from full in months. It use to work. Dishwasher is about 2 yrs. old. I noticed on the underside of the cap what appears to be a melted spot? Let's get together and picket Sears......
Identical problem and age of washer. Also, noticed what appears to be a melted spot on the underside of the dispensers cap? Well there, I feel better, but how does this help? I guess we could all get together and picket Sears...lol.
Same problem with my KitchendAid KUDS03, which is only 15 months old. I had the dispenser replaced (under warranty) when it was about a year old and the problem has come back.
Sounds like a common defect in their design - I'm going to write the company about it..
I have a kitchenaid dw and the rinse dispenser dumps about half of a full amount each time with the dial set to minimum.
Replace rinse aid cap 2 months ago. Rinse aid has not dispensed since then
Will not let me add rinse aid into the dispenser on the door of the dishwasher.
