Goto Menu then Profiles you see a red dot on General. Press options on lower left of screen and Edit. scroll down to Flip Beep and click it then scroll to Silence and press Select on lower left of screen. It worked for me.
This is "Flip beep." To turn it on/off must go thru "Profiles" menu, which is rather clunky on T-Mobile 665. For now, "B" is black button in middle of navigation ring. Here's my answer:
Open phone. Press "B." Navigate to Profiles (right lower corner). Press "B." Options (left softkey). Select Edit. OK (left softkey). Scroll (navigate) till red bar along right edge of screen straddles "Flip beed" and "Silence." Press "B" (yes; third time). Select Silence. Done.

this is an issue with these phones and requires that you go through the warranty exchange process with your cell provider. there isnt anything you can do on your end, except for that. if they wont do it, you can always contact the sony / ericsson and get an exchange through them. your provider AND sony, might try to make you purchase a new phone, if you are not eligible for an exchange.

go to settings, then ringtones, then edit...scroll along passing call tone, message tone, power on/off tone til you get to a pic of a little yellow shell and a phone inside it - you have about 5 sound on/off options plus a SILENCE option, press ok then back back back to normal screen and the noise has gone! phew! It was driving me nuts too!
