Bosch dishwasher turns on but doesn't fill with water and start washing

The water to the dishwasher was turned off under the sink so another repair (not related to the dishwasher) could be made. Then the dishwasher was turned on while the water was turned off. Once the mistake was discovered, we turned the water back on and now the dishwasher will turn on and starts humming but does not fill with water. We have checked the hose and water is getting to the unit. It just isn't filling.

There is a float in the dishwasher that sometimes gets stuck and when that happens, the washer will not fill. Look for a (mostly round) upright part that will be in the front of the washer either on the left or right side. That is the float and it could be stuck in the cutoff position (caused by the soap). The older models have it on the same side where the soap is placed. The newer models have it on the opposite side to stop that exact problem. MOve it up and down and clean out any dried caked soap that might be under it.

Good Luck

The model of my Bosch dishwasher is SHX43P15UC and it is only a couple of years old. Is the float switch found in the front of the dishwasher behind the kick plate at the bottom of the unit? And, so I know when I find it, is the part metal or plastic?

  • Anonymous Nov 20, 2011

It is plastic and is found in the bottom of the dishwasher where the element is. It is not behind the kick plate. It is in the front on either the left or right side - pull and push on it and then remove the build up underneath it. The float is designed so that when there is water in the unit, it floats up and cuts off the supply of water - hence my suspicion that it is clogged and stuck in the up position.

Pumps water in don't wash and pumps out again

Not sure whether a schematic will help unless you have some understanding of the location of the components. It would help if you are able to clarify what you mean by pumping in. Usually you should hear the water inlet valve turn on to let water in. Then the wash motor should run to churn the water around and then the drain pump should drain the water out. What is happening is the dishwasher is leaking water as soon as it fills. This causes the flood switch to turn on and that triggers the drain pump to empty the water. Usually Bosch dishwasher have an inline water leakage detector. Check under the sink where water inlet tap is located. There is a device connected through which the water get in. The hose is detecting leakage. Need actual model number of the dishwasher to investigate.

Bosch silence plus 50 dba is showing error code h01

I believe this is a filling or water flow error. Make sure all the plumbing stuff is OK look at the valve under the sink that feeds the dishwasher. make sure it has not gotten turned off. Sometimes with hot water and cold also a chunk of crud will break off somewhere and get lodged blocking or restricting the flow. You may also have a filter somewhere on the DW to prevent junk from getting in. If there is a piece of crud a likely spot for it to be is at the valve connection under the sink where the DW hose connects to the hot water line. You can try unhooking the DW supply hose from the shut off(turn the shut off OFF first) and seeing if there is any junk in it. Shake the hose about 8" back from the end to try and send any junk in it flying across the kitchen. Also open the valve a bit with a bowl under it to blast any junk out. also see if it seems like a decent amount of water comes out to rule out any upstream plumbing issues.

Dishwasher not working.... when i close the dishwasher and turn it on i can not hear any water running and there is a pool of water at the bottom that will not drain

Hello, How long has your dishwasher been do this? Have you washed dish's in it? Also, these German made dishwasher run on less than 2 1/2 gallons of water. These German manufactured dishwasher machines run really quite. Because of the German water conservancies laws. They limit the amount of water dishwasher and washing machine can use. Also, there is no storage hot water system in there homes, it on demand hot water. You can't hear the motor running and about the only thing one can hear is maybe the water washing the dishes.

Now, the water at the bottom of the dishwasher, if the drain isn't connected up under is the sink drain and trap area or the garbage disposable in the sink. but some place lower on the drain pipe. You will not have a spiffing effect on the the bottom of the dishwasher, it the same with washing machines. One the discharge pump starts sucking air, it will not drain the dishwasher. The siffen effect works if the water is below the outlet for the drain. Example: Home owner have the new washing running and continue fill with water. Why, because the drain pipe end is below the the bottom of the washing machine tub. It fill up with water and siffen action continues emptying the tube will it still filling. One heck of a water bill.

My Bosch dishwasher is taking hours (at least 3 - maybe more) to complete a cycle. There is gummy, yucky stuff building up inside - sorta pinkish brownish. Could the water not be hot enough? A couple of...

if your on demand heater is one of the small ones that mounts under the sink, it will not flow enough water to fill your dishwasher. the dishwasher is waiting for the water level to fill before it starts washing. your bosch will heat its own water. hook it up to a cold line ahead of the water heater so that the fill valve is fed with full pressure. the residue sounds like detergent build up. when you get the water issue resolved, run a few cycles with no dishes and no detergent, on the highest temp setting. add a cup or two of white vinegar or dishwasher cleaner ( order online or get from an appliance repair store) through it. Dont forget your dishwasher has a filter in the bottom under the spray arm that needs to be cleaned periodically. if you dont clean it once a month it will get all kinds of nasty stuff built up in there.

Bosch SHU 5302 Machine doesn,t fill with water.

Make sure you get water to the dishwasher. Check to see if the water shut-off valve (located under the sink) is open. If you get water to the dishwasher, but there is still no water inside during the fill cycle, the problem might be with a faulty water valve (located at the bottom of the dishwasher, behind the kick panel, on either side), in which case replace the water valve.

Dishwasher Accumulates Water When Off

Try turning water off to dishwasher and see if it stops it. If so, replace valve. If not check for a low drain hose loop, allowing drain water from sink to back up into dishwasher. Just raise drain hose as high as possible under sink and secure.
